I'm at 7:275:08:47:04 going for 8 years. Don't know if I will make it. It should be close. ![]() Now at 7:351:23:27:59 I think I'm going to make it. As soon as it hits 8 years I will abort the rest. ![]() |

I am 4 hours short of 5 years (with pending)
----------------------------------------Going to get one or two units to make it as close as I can. (Just for something to do I really dont mind going over, just letting whoever needs em get em) Edit: Ok downloaded 2 more for 2 hours 36 min each (estimate). I'll be watching closely Dont want to miss like i did with influenza by 17 hours or something ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jack007 at Feb 10, 2012 5:13:00 PM] |

Darn. I still need over 9 days yet (included the PV already) to get bronze for this project. Think I'll make it if I up my cache (it's 0.5 days right now)? And what would ya recommend (all you long time crunchers) to up it to, considering the approximate 7-10 day (average) due dates on work units?

And what would ya recommend (all you long time crunchers) to up it to, considering the approximate 7-10 day (average) due dates on work units? The dashboard is showing 9 days left for regular work distribution. I can assume you're running a single system? In that case, even a 1 day cache would do you fine because even if the regular units end before you hit your badge, there will be a trickle of work for quite some time afterwards. All you'll need to do is pick up one or two or even repairs to meet your target. In short, it's too early to start worrying about it. Once the official end draws nearer, you'll have a better idea of what to set the cache at. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

Oh cool. Thanks Shrub.
----------------------------------------I've also just looked thru all my V and PV for this project and notice most all of my work units only seem to take between 1.4 and 2.1 hours. Just set my cache to 1 day and with my DCF at 0.8504 right now it grabbed a bunch to fill the queue and shows 1:58:58 for each. Obviously that changes with each one finished, but still, that looks like it'll be a nice sized queue for me. :) I also seem to pick up some resent work units due to them having errors, not being returned, or what have you. Those seem to end up taking from 2 to 6 hours to finish. Isn't the limit per work unit for this project 6 hours? If so, what happens to the work unit when TWO people return at 6 hours maxxed time? Does it still get validated and credited, and then just put back into the queue of units to get sent out again to process? Or does it get inspected somehow and not done again? ![]() i5-12600K (3.7GHz), 32GB DDR5, Win11 64bit Home [Edit 1 times, last edit by Bugg at Feb 10, 2012 7:47:57 PM] |

There's a soft limit at 6 hours (WU continues only if there's a small percentage of work left, can't find the exact reference) and a hard limit at 12 hours. Credit is given for the work that overlaps in the 2 returns, then one or more new WUs are sent out to cover the remaining work, thereby creating "child", "grandchild" WUs etc. For more detail, see knreed post at Oct 26, 2009 9:17:21 PM. |

Sapphire number 3. I left it a bit late, though.
----------------------------------------Returned about 20 work units. Good luck to those still trying for a badge. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by NigelMorton at Feb 12, 2012 10:25:47 AM] |
