Is Influenza a project that uses frequent checkpoints? in other words, is it a good project to run on a system that is often turned on and off? Or is DDDT and Rice still the best option for those kind of situations (as I've read in several other threads).

the project Matrix shows that it should checkpoint between every 3-10 minutes.

I am seeing checkpoints at almost exactly the same frequency as DDDT. This is more frequent than any project except (usually) NRW.

Hi, perhaps you could use hibernate instead of shut down? That way the application just continues when the computer is started again.
And when I want to use my computer for more demanding tasks (play games) I suspend WCG in Boinc but keep the applications in memory. This can be enabled here: Advanced/Preferences/disk and memory usage/Leave applications in memory while suspended If this works for you perhaps the frequent checkpoints is less of an issue? |

Glad to see that not everybody feel comfortable with hibernation. I also am always interested in checkpoint times.

You don't say what CPU speed, but HFCC doing one "half an hour or less" indicates a rather slow device. Certainly it's the first to hear of such long intervals. HCC starts with short intervals which get longer and longer as the task progresses, so that's the one I'd expect for some to see an hour and more depending on the GHZ towards the end.
----------------------------------------I use hibernation/standby/sleep pretty much always on my laptop C2D/XP 1.8ghz centrino duo, just closing the lid and the results always continue and validate without a second of lost time.

I use Vista becase of its many features!
The Start, Power button, Saves your session and puts the computer into a low power state so that you can quickly resumb work - well thats what it says its doing. This is one of the better features. Just the thing when you have 20 windows open, but neeeed sleep! I also use Boinc's right click, Snooze button, when I am busy. This is mainly to do with the video card running CUDA. |
