I disabled the startup of Boinc manager in the options menu because I was diagnosing a computer problem and wanted to disable the boinc manager from loading when I logged in. I've now gone back and checked the option to run Boinc manager at startup but it doesn't work. Any ideas on how to re-enable it? I know I could reinstall but I thought there might be another fix. Thanks.

The simplest option is to drop the BOINC Manager shortcut into your startup folder.
Alternatively, use RegEdit to add boincmgr to the Run key. Use boincmgr /s to start it in the notification area. |

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried your first method and, after rebooting, got an error message saying the app couldn't start because I was missing a dll file. I then tried to do a repair by installing over the current installation and that didn't fix the startup issue. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it still isn't starting up, lol. It's easy enough for me to manually run it, but I'd like to get it working correctly. I could try your registry option but I'm not familiar with editing the registry. Any idea why uninstalling and reinstalling didn't fix it?

What great release version is this? The missing dll message sounds familiar i.e. recall it being mentioned quite recently.

This is 6.2.28, downloaded from the WCG website. All was fine until I unchecked "run boinc manager at startup". I only intended it to be temporary and assumed re-checking the option would re-enable it. Strange.

You are putting a shortcut in the Startup folder, not copying the executable itself?

Alternatively, use RegEdit to add boincmgr to the Run key. Use boincmgr /s to start it in the notification area. Or use Windows Task scheduler to do the same thing, if you are not familiar with RegEdit Mika

You are putting a shortcut in the Startup folder, not copying the executable itself? Yes, using a shortcut. I did it again and rebooted and this time Boinc manager loaded automatically. The only issue now is that for some reason it starts with the manager window open and maximized so I have to close it to see the desktop. It never popped open the window before. So...... any ideas how to prevent the window from opening automatically? lol |

As in my first reply: modify the shortcut by appending /s

Note: the shortcut must also be set to "Open in normal window".
