BOINC does not download new WUs or run existing ones
I have a quad core computer that where the only attached project is WCG.
Last night, it completed all four units and did not seem to request any more.

I updated the project and was able to get them reported, but it kept reporting that it was requesting 0 seconds of work.

I detached and reattached to the project, and received one WU. Which it will not run. (computer was idle for hours)

I uninstalled BOINC 6.4.5 and installed the WCG version. It still would only request 0 seconds of work.

I aborted the one WU that was there and not running, and it suddenly jumped to 100% and reported back.

Now I have no WU's, and it keeps requesting 0 seconds.

I have also upped my settings to always have 1.0 days of buffer.

I have run out of ideas... Any help?

BOINC 6.4.5 can mess up your work-fetch permanently.

I see a few problems there. I think it will be easiest if you start with a blank slate, by deleting the state files.

To do this:

1) Stop and exit BOINC. You have a service install, so make sure the service is completely stopped.
2) From C:\WINNT\Profiles\All Users\Application Data\BOINC delete client_state.xml and client_state_prev.xml
3) Restart BOINC

Finally, check in the Activity menu that BOINC is set to run based on preferences. If you still have problems, change it to "run always", to rule out preference issues.

So I uninstalled BOINC, and the files in the \\appdata\boinc directory were deleted in the process. i rebooted, reinstalled boinc, rebooted again, and still no luck...

any more ideas out there?

So, I installed 6.6.2 and things seem to work.
It was a little weird because when i update, it only downloaded 2 WU's even though im running 4 cores...
so now each time i hit update it gives me 2 more...

i guess the problem is solved?

I did try the method you described first, and it did not work in my case.

The whole directory did disappear with each uninstall, so at least on my system it definitely did delete the files.


I am going to run it for a bit with 6.6.2 and see how things work out.

The uninstaller moves the files, and the installer moves them back.

Truly insane.

BOINC 6.6.20 has been superseded by 6.6.21 mere hours after it launched. There are also hundreds of outstanding bugs. So, good luck.
