A new badge proposal

We have seen dozens of similar ideas for expanding the badge reward feature. This is a little different.

I propose we add more options for choosing what members display. I see three selections:

1) Minimal data. No badges, just display the totals.

2) Badges. As well as displaying the badges, all project totals will be public for external stats sites (i.e. if external sites want to create a bazillion different badge levels, they can do this easily).

3) Featured project. A lot of members are here just for a single cause. For these members, I see a new feature where the member can select the project they are focussed on, and instead of dozens of badges, a single, big, shiny badge will be displayed, proudly announcing the total runtime for that project (maybe rounded to years).

I think this proposal covers both people's need for privacy, and people's desire to shout from the rooftops.... what do you think?

Re: A new badge proposal

It seems fair and suitable for all personal dispositions.

In 2) when you write "all project totals will be public for external stats sites" I presume that they would be public also inside WCG?

I think many members would like the featured project option, with or without displaying their achievement.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: A new badge proposal

Yes, I believe displaying project totals has been requested before. It may already be on the todo list.

My proposal for a white badge:
White badge = at least one WU crunched.

Yes, I've seen this suggestion before, and I really believe that it's a good and worthy one biggrin

That proposal has been discussed already.

Sorry, 100% disagree...!!!

A badge should be what it currently is: a contribution for long term crunching on our projects... I don't think, we should give a badge to all persons, who just "try out" the wcg-boinc software, crunchs one or two WU's, and then is off again... sad

No, for just one WU there shouldn't be an honour like that. Like it is in live: to get an appreciation, it's not enough just to do the least. It needs to do more than that...!!!

My € 0,02...

Re: A new badge proposal

Sounds interesting, but I suggest you post a few examples of your thoughts, as most people will evaluate a 'picture' better than a description. The actual numbers don't matter, as long as it give an idea of what you are thinking.

I expect the second option will spawn some 'my badge is fancier than your badge' competition. smile
