I got a couple of those "Output File absent" messages this morning for HCC - one on a XP system, others on Linux. I just aborted and moved on. Seeing more "Server can not open database" as of late...

Hi Sek!
----------------------------------------Nice try to create a diversion, but we were three to start a separate thread at the same time (the three opening posts have been merged at the start of this thread within minutes) and we all ignored the message in the message log, because the interesting clues were obviously not there. Of course all three of us could be wrong, but I am doubtful. To give you all details the status in the task list of Boinc was something like "computation error" ("Erreur de calcul" in French). Cheers. Jean. |

Ahh, yes, the completeness that I forgot all about. These are the first two pages of my 'Results' listing - the first two of about 5 or 6. Note the "about". So much for completeness!

It's about completeness of reporting you're so big on ![]() Completeness of clues when trying to find where the problem is, OK, but with everything we brought to the forum it was quickly obvious that the problem was in the WUs and that we only have to wait for the techs to fix it. Completeness of consequences and comments? That does not help much in my opinion. In addition to the "output file absent" we could have said - big sadness - real disappointment - xx minutes yy seconds of possible crunching time wasted because my machine was idle - it's a shame - WCG you are wasting my precious electricity and so on. But is it really adding any value to the case? Cheers. Jean. Edit: Added a missing "g" to "everythin" for the completeness of this word. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Apr 10, 2009 3:50:03 PM] |

Edit: Added a missing "g" to "everythin" for the completeness of this word. ![]() No JmBoullier, of course not - it's not adding value as far as usefulness to the casual cruncher like me anyway. So this question is poised: How can circumstances like this get brought to the front row ("Up Front") of status pages, forums, SOMEWHERE, so that casual crunchers (like me) don't have to search through the thousands of threads When it is convenient even after these issues have been in-progress for hours? Thanks for the enlightenment, csw |

Confirmed major issues are announced in the read only Known Issues forum (also available as RSS).

Right, thanks.
So is this issue 'major'? Or, 'minor'? Or, 'intermediate'? It's effects 'routine'? Or, 'systematic'? Or,... Confirmed? or Unconfirmed? My curiosity remains after seeing my results listing. csw P.S. I used to do RSS. Feels so Twentieth Century. |

Seeing more "Server can not open database" as of late... seawizard, I am sorry for the diversion and for the jokes and for forgetting to answer your message specifically. This message is usually transient and it could be another (more serious) consequence of the primary HCC problem. Many WUs returning in error soon after having been distributed and needing to be re-distributed as soon as possible are obviously adding much to the load of the servers, especially when the problem is with the most wanted project of WCG. Cheers. Jean. |

My curiosity remains after seeing my results listing. I find this issue major and currently systematic and I think i have made it clear since my first post that it would be better to unselect HCC until the problem is announced (by the techs) as fixed. Maybe I have not said it loud enough... Also, with the exception of possible older WUs which would be re-distributed for other reasons, it seems that the problem is confirmed since nobody has said after we started this thread that good WUs were coming down. For other details we will have to wait for what the techs will say. Cheers. Jean. |
