As of right this minute I have 1 desktop (to be replaced this summer), 3 laptops,2 tablets and 2 cell phones( 1 quad and 6 core. ) none are very powerfull but do not use much in the way of energy consumption. I do have 1 more desktop but, it may need a new psu. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by sujo1 at Mar 9, 2018 11:36:10 PM] |

As of right this minute I have Do you count them very often? That's a handsome line up, sujo1 Is the psu the part you mean to change come pay day? Have you ever attempted to recruit anyone to crunch? I just took a closer look at our challenges. I'm so impressed! We are in front of team UK which has 696 members in total (retired included) and is one to be feared. We run in front of Team Andrax, too, in three out of four current races ![]() - this energetic team which Base Camp recently visited of just 123 members in total, but with several strongmen of whom we are lucky to house Doneske here now. Well, you didn't answer my first chatty question - maybe you don't do chatty questions at all but that's the only way I know to get to learn somebody - if I knew psu and such, I would ask about that - but how do you like being a SeriousCruncher, Doneske? ![]() Sorry, sujo1, I know I have lived long enough and tried this many times - either I get to know Doneske now - or I risk chasing him out of your corral entirely ![]() |

Good morning SeriousCrunchers, Here is todays Challenge results.
---------------------------------------- LLBXS78798 Points All Projects 03/12/2018 1 place Mar 2018 By-points All-projects Points All Projects 03/31/2018 4 place Mar 2018 By-results All-projects Results Returned All Projects 03/31/2018 4 place Mar 2018 By-time All-projects Run Time All Projects 03/31/2018 4 place S#C1803Cancerstopper Points Mapping Cancer Markers 03/31/2018 3 place No i don't count them very often. I may or may not change out the power supply on this one, it is a very old amd quad and it might be better to just scrap it and use the money saved to get a more efficient cruncher. Yes I try every day to get more people to crunch. To answer the first question. I buy everything with the intent to crunch cancer science. I hope that answers most of your questions to me. ![]() ![]() |

It answers them perfectly, sujo1. Thank you
Have you had any luck getting people to actually start crunching? Family, friends, people you happen to meet and strike up some small talk with? Do they understand what you explain to them? Those I talk to get a - if not 1,000 then at least 500 mile stare in their eyes and what they stare at is positioned to the east or the west of me ... ![]() |

Most of the people that I talk to about cancer research are very attentive to what I say but, then they never ask about what they would need to crunch, or they don't like the Idea of no tax write-off(as in charitable donations.) I have noticed that most of (if not all) the people I have a conversation with are like "what's in it for me?" Not looking at the larger picture. That includes family and friends that have lost numerous people in their lives, that may have been (potentially) saved with the use of the data they supplied.
---------------------------------------- In conclusion to this loooong winded post, I will never stop trying to get people to join. ![]() ![]() |

Thank you for your loooong winded post. This way we get to exchange our experiences
I admire your spirit, and hope that some day you'll meet someone who's not of the 'what's in it for me' class. I would say that this attitude is not what I meet. We seem not to be so much centered on the money part. We also are not so much into charity as a part of normal life as the USA is - mainly because our taxes take care of most aid and private donations are 'extra' although tax deductions have been introduced. However, if you are a 'small cruncher' like me, it's hard to detect on your electricity bill, and it would never pass the lower limit for becoming a deductible. Here it's my impression that it's more fear of viruses and general IT-illiteracy holding people back. And they seem to be unable to understand any aspect of what we do here. 'My people' know how to e-mail, to bank, and buy stuff, and a few more things and are not all that interested in branching out into exotic ventures as they think crunching would be. ![]() |

I can relate to Sujo1. I've told many about WCG, some were old friends who were all excited about it but never followed through. Of course I got David to join and willingly joins me wherever I travel for trekking and challenges. 2 others were active until their PCs bit the dirt.
----------------------------------------When I was crunching with GRID, people stated they'd like to see a T-shirt offered. I think if BOINC/WCG had Ts it would at least prompt some interest from people if nothing more than learning about it,when they wouldn't otherwise hear about what we do. I've thought several time about making my own but can't get my head around it, a graphics designer I am not.
One drop raises the sea.
