Hi,
----------------------------------------Regarding the many threads about errors, inconclusive (even if not so dramatic), and invalid results, I would like to share some observations looking back on around 26 months of experience. I sent back daily around 80 WUs for various WCG projects and I do experience error or invalid results very rarely (excepted for betas). I'm operating several systems running W2K, XP and XP64 on single core, HT and real quad cores systems (from P4M until Q6600 & Q9450). Since many months (nearly one year) I run boinc 5.10.45 on every systems without any overclocking. Regarding comment and feedback placed in WCG fora, I would strongly recommend to stay on boinc 5.10.45 ! I did consider several times during the last months to upgrade to boinc 6.x.y but all information earned here shows that boinc 5.10.45 is probably the most reliable agent version at this time. Being honest, I don't have any clue nor experience regarding the constellation "Vista - boinc" (because I still succeed to avoid using Vista) however I assume that boinc 5.10.45 is still remaining the good choice. Cheers, Yves --- PS: Regarding inconclusive results, I would only recommend to be patient because in the most cases, such results become valid anyway. |

FWIW, I'm using 5.10.30 on an XP machine and 5.10.45 on 2 Vista boxes. I've had no problems on any of the installations - ever
----------------------------------------![]() I considered upgrading a few times, but figured if it works no need to fix it. I was also concerned about the issues some have mentioned about HPF phase 2. So I've left well enough alone; for now. |

There are many good choices beyond 5.10.45, many are feasible and estable as 5.10.45.
----------------------------------------I think that each user try avoid mistakes ever, and try get information enough to sum with personal experiences, to finally decides for one or other versions with more afordability. It depends on many variables (Operating Systems, hardware configuration, support available from BOINC, support available from WCG, compatibility to use GPU's or not in Boinc specifics projects, recommended releases, personal preferences to avoid risks or willingness to take risks, known estability of a specific version on specific O.S., and so on...). From times to times, I upgrade my boxes, but not before take a deep look inside threads and posts in WCG and mainly in other BOINC projects, to try avoid wrong choices. As I'm running GPU based projects with BOINC, need use a distinct version than WCG recommended, but without significant issues to mention until now. There is an interesting BOINC site with all releases available: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/?C=M;O=D Up to you try or not. ![]() ![]()

Boinc 5.10.45 works best for us as well. Use it on XP and Vista, single, duo,and quad core boxes. Also it's necessary on the LHC project as they haven't upgraded their servers yet.
