Team North Carolina

I wanted to put out a feeler to our members that have been around a while and see if anyone is interested in being the NEW TEAM CAPTAIN. Currently, we have none, and haven't for over four years. We are on autopilot. WCG has tried to contact the founder, but has no response. He posted an impressive 20 results before fading into nothingness. There are several of you that have many more hours crunching here than I do, and I didn't want to step on any toes by jumping in there. Send me some feedback and let me know what you think.

Re: Team North Carolina

As of this morning, I am the new captain for team NORTH CAROLINA. Mike Holden, the original captain went missing quite a while ago.

It looks like we have not had a new active member since 06/08, and many of our members have not returned any results for quite a while. I am looking for ideas that may work for increasing our numbers. Members and returns. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

An interesting bit of information about our team, only four of us have opted to recieve e-mails. All active menbers are requested to opt in to recieving e-mails so that I can keep you updated on what we are doing. IF we don't do something, this team will slowly die. Our work here is much too important to let that happen.

Looking foreward to hearing from you.

Re: Team North Carolina

hey, I'm one of the four (really only four?) that opted for e-mails
I just joined a random group, I didn't really know what the purpose of the group was and haven't heard anything from it until now

it seems like it will be difficult to organize if there's no way to contact any of the group members

Re: Team North Carolina

I've been about like our former captain. Haven't been active for quite a while. I'll try and get some agents back up and running.

The only way I can think of to get the membership working again is by contacting them and letting them know about the current projects. Of course, if you cannot contact them...

Good luck with your team! I used to live in the Canton area and still have family in that area.

Re: Team North Carolina

if you're going to tell your family members though, make sure they understand what BOINC is and the grid in general

i told my mom that I am sharing my idle processor time and she wanted me to uninstall it "how do you know what those people are doing with your idle computer?" - just make sure not to scare non-techie people

Re: Team North Carolina

If they have questions, send them to the web site and let them do their own research. The FAQ's will answer a lot of the concerns, and it will give them a better feel for what we are doing. They have to be comfortable with what they are doing, or they wont stick with it.

I want to welcome our newest member ncbree to team North Carolina! And I challenge each of our active members to sign up Just one new member by May 30. Try the "Tell Your Friends" link to send them an e-mail.

Thanks,
ncpete

Hi ncpete and all the other team members!! Welcome Pete as our new team captain! When I joined WCG last year I wanted to be a part of a team and since I live in Burlington, NC joined the NC Team. I wondered what was going on since it didn't seem that we were processing many units. I think it would be good to get some more active team members. Thanks for stepping up Pete and happy Crunching!! Jim

Re: Team North Carolina

Good to hear from you Jim. Looks like we are practically neighbors. I am in Sophia, close to Caraway Speedway, about 40 miles from you. Like you, I wondered for a long time what was going on with the team, so I finally decided to find out. I hope we can attract enough interest to really make a difference. If we could attract a few more with your stats, we would be sitting pretty! If you have any good ideas on recruitment, e-mail me, or post it here. Looking foreward to hearing from you. Good crunching!

Thanks, ncpete
