Finished unit will not go away [RESOLVED]

I finished Human Proteome Folding WU mh129_00005_9 a few days ago. I am running BOINC 6.4.5.

The WU is listed as Acknowledged, and I have received credit for it. The problem is that the unit will not go away! Each time I connect to the server, I receive the error:

Message from server: Completed result mh129_00005_9 refused: result already reported as success.

How can I remove the WU from my system so it stops trying to report? I have tried updating the project status and aborting the unit from the manager with no results.

Thanks, guys!

Re: Finished unit will not go away

Ok, since i wont teach hacking. Run WCG buffer empty after setting "No new tasks". Then, when all work is complete, on the Projects tab select WCG and do a Reset.

The more direct way is not to blink and simply reset. It should go away.

And this is why 6.4.x. is not recommended, by WCG and me and many at WCG... it was made for CUDA crunchers only. Not heard of this quirk before.

Let us know the outcome and if ok, change your original post title and add [RESOLVED]

Re: Finished unit will not go away

Just to be clear, if I do the reset now, it will kill all of the WU's that are currently downloaded, correct?

If so, I will use your first method. I have set it to no new tasks, and it should run through the remainders by tonight. I will try it then.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will post with news of success or failure.

Re: Finished unit will not go away

All none-started work already downloaded, not yet started, will be re-downloaded... you'll see something like a "lost results recovery" or similar (don't know of all BOINC versions do that). Work in progress is permanently lost and will be reissued to another cruncher, hence the "run empty" suggestion.

Re: Finished unit will not go away

So I checked later on in the night, and the faulty work unit was gone. However, the system appeared to be working with one less core than normal.

As I was still confused, I continued to let it finish the WU's that I had downloaded and reset the project. Everything seems fine now.

One other note: it looks like the machine went into hibernate right before the first WU got confused. That may be the root cause of the issue.

Re: Finished unit will not go away

Just FYI, somebody else reported it here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22082547-WCG...tuck-on-some-workstations

According to the log they pasted, they're not running 6.4.x they're running the the WCG recommended 6.2.28.

Re: Finished unit will not go away

Could have been intermittent communications. There's allot of signaling going back and forth to make sure files and result reports get across to the project servers, then an (unrecorded, briefly visible) acknowledged and a clearing of the Ready to Report line. Best place to check is the Result Status page. Until the whole exercise is complete a task will continue to show "in progress". If it has another status, WCG is happy and has everything they want from you. Leaves a seeming bug that is not clearing out the RtR line. Let me ponder how/where to report this up.
