When will the UD points be finally converted to Boinc points? This has been asked so many times without a good answer IMHO.
----------------------------------------Just the usual "just wait and see" answers. This has been long overdue. I am hoping to actually hear about when. Like so many crunchers.  I like that Nike commercial ... "Just Do It" Happy crunching, everyone! |

When they have time.
Launching new projects and managing all the massive volumes of work we process is a time-consuming task. Cosmetic things like converting the UD points are one of those things that get pushed down the schedule when more important things come along. |

Ehhh ... yet again. Edit: We do understand about "when more important things come along". We are all crunchers. Geez ... Many Teams still use the old "UD Points" (not us) and let me tell you, a whack of them do get confused. Just wait until the UD points get converted. While it will be nice when the numbers finally do change over, they're just numbers. Also while new members may not know anything but BOINC there is a metric a$$ load of work that was done using the original client and it's hardly reasonable to just dump the lot and pretend it didn't happen. A lot of people put a lot of effort into that work. As such, we have what we have. I'll be interested to see how the tech will manage to sort it out, but I'm in no rush. It will come when it comes.

We have many balls that we are juggling right now. Although this is something we definitely want to get done, there are some higher priority items right now (like the beta tests). Also, some of the stat columns actually have the points stored as integers in the data base. Thus we are going to have to change those over in order to complete the conversion which means it is a bigger effort that we originally anticipated (I couldn't believe it when I looked at it).

Here is an idea:
----------------------------------------Can't all this work (of conversion UD points to Boinc points) be outsource to a select few skilled WCG members that can help with it? Of course, critical information should stay out of it but I am thinking about brute work, muscle work that can be done by WCG crunchers (select few) so it will be easier for WCG Admin Team to get the Conversion without losing they're time and resources. What do you think of the feasibility of this idea? |
