just a thought about research
|
I don't have much research background, so my apologies if I didn't get all the correct terminogy.
I just heard about the break through in stem cell in the US using a carrier (from a moth) to transfer genes that can turn a mature human skin cell into a stem cell. I was thinking about another research that I read about a HIV patient who had a bone marrow transplant (from some one who is immune to the HIV virus) and was cured.
So technically if someone can locate the section of gene that makes people immune to HIV, combine with the carrier from the stem cell research. Can we potentially use people's own bone marrow and insert the gene and use this to threat themselves to help them make a stronger version of blood cells.
I don't have medical background. I am guessing that since regular HIV patient don't have leukemia they don't need chemo before receiving their own bone marrow back.
Any thoughts?
