Last night and this afternoon particularly, the stats plummeted for Fight AIDS. All other projects actually show slightly more than Friday, so is anyone observing this on her/his stats and crunchers?

Seems normal here, but I only get a few FAAH jobs anyway.

It should be another good day for me as well as for the team (according to the latest BoincStats).

I only had 1 FAAH complete (not unusual) but it only took about 1/2 as long as usual on my P4.

Sek: Just now read your post ...
----------------------------------------YES, about 24-30 hrs back, I got fewer FAAH WUs in my mix than usual. I have FAAH/DDDT/CEP selected (no CEPs coming right now of course), and I got mostly DDDT for about 12 hrs. Recently, it's usually been about 10 FAAH per DDDT. I wondered whether DDDT had been put on "boost", but your post suggests a temporary shortage of FAAH instead. The change in mix was probably too brief to show up clearly in the daily returned results stats. DDDT daily returns have been ramping up over the last week or so anyway. HTH. May have been something that made knreed to run a Saturday night (un) scheduled maintenance. FAAH made up half the Saturday shortfall. There was a 10 CPU year validation spill over, seemingly not effecting the other projects.
----------------------------------------The hike in FAAH results, but also the steep increase in credit per hour suggests there was a temporary supply / demand crunch... or some team(s) playing a power flush game :D

Okay, from the daily stats, it seems the squeeze was earnest on Saturday. Watching credits per hour is a good indicator there was a supply bottleneck as on resume the fastest crunchers return work first and with shortest run times, increasing the average, temporarily.

We had a surprise short term shortage of workunits. We had to temporarily reduce FightAIDS@Home's weight as we sorted it out. As soon as it was sorted out we returned FightAIDS@Home to full weight.
We didn't announce anything becuase work was still available and that we expected things to be back to normal in very short order. I forget that with the lack of redundancy, changes to the weight show up almost immediately since there is much less validation delay. |

Hi Everybody,
knreed is completely correct. Although we had several hundred packages (i.e., groups of 1 to 2,000 docking jobs, with each job getting split into multiple different work units) waiting in the queue, these packages involved the use of a slightly different flavor of run parameters. These run parameters caused the estimated work unit duration to be about 40 hours/work unit, instead of the preferred 6 to 10 hours/work unit. This issue was noticed at the last possible moment. Consequently, I kicked it into high gear and burned the midnight oil on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in order to re-create many new packages which use the run parameters that give the more consistent, shorter run times. The crisis was averted. Everything is fine now. The FightAIDSatHome queue is now full, and you shouldn't observe any more decreases in the dissemination of work units. Thank you all very much for your help, Dr. Alex Perryman |
