Home cure morning to all....
----------------------------------------Tony, Sounds quite outrageous, nowadays the grand kids smile in disbelief and shake their heads "He's been reading Dickens again" Natural remedies a little less extreme comfrey (knit bone) made into a poultice for twisted limbs Plain Cabbage some how has the same properties. The foxglove digitalis for heart treatment .The Willow other than being used for Cricket bats gave us aspirin You just question how folks found out the features that worked over and above the "snake oil" made of heaven knows what. Leeches and Maggots are also now back in favour for cleansing wounds ???? This is I believe international ,,,,, Little mermaid often makes mention of Birch twig's wafting but Maybe we shouldn't go down that road ![]() And will A lise miss out on watching " Dinner for One " with Freddie Frinton she could of course catch it on Utube ---------------------------------------- [Edit 3 times, last edit by densnaps at Dec 31, 2011 1:39:20 PM] |

Good moaning all................
Snake Oil ......... Den, I can't think of any reason for wanting to oil a snake!!?, but I do know that this 'quack' preparation was a 'cure all' in its day, there were many recipes of which no one really knows what! Originating from China and crossing the seas to the early Americans and then into Europe, 'Snake Oil' Doctors were very much part of the 1800s. Nearest thing to it now-a-days is 'Wild Tiger Balm'(I don't know if any real Tigers are killed for this preparation) As you rightly say, "Our Grandchildren wouldn't Adam & Eve it" It's interesting to see that some of the old panaceas are being ressurected, nature has a way of curing most things......... 'now if only I could find a cure for memory loss and dyslexia' ![]() ![]() Whatever you take do take care .............. Old 'what's his name' ![]() |

Evening all
Dinner for One: that takes me back to my few years in Germany. It was always the programme not to be missed. More Germans new of Freddie Frinton than the Brits. Have a good evening and I wish all our team a very healthy and happy New Year. |
