Don't cast off the woollies yet folk, there's another icy blast coming in sad

Just watched '1963 The Big Freeze' on BBC2 Winter Wildlife Watch, it brought back some memories, amazingly at the time I thought it was great fun! not so sure these days why I did? ah but then I was a young 19yrs old biggrin

Keep warm, keep safe and keep on crunching............

Re: Chilly morning

The old brain drags up things from 50+ years ago like the mechanical departure Board in Victoria station I remember a porter chappie who had a long pole (I think that pole is leaning against the Ladder ) flipping the little flaps changing destination towns he lived behind a wall below the board walking up and down I wanted to do that job when I left school . It was hard to find a picture of this part of station Furniture.............there are loads of the latest mainline station equipment
I also noted that the row indicating that you should change at Oxted for Uckfield so that I expect it would relate to the line I would have used.
The boards are now all electronic changed by remote computer
***********************************
While I'm on about change's

When You travel by rail where do you board the train?
I always go to the "Railway Station" but it seems now the popular term is the "Train station "
You can go to the Underground Station or Tube Station
a Bus station & locally we have a Bus Depot but somehow Train station just grates on my ear .
************************************
Reports of casualties in Afghanistan the death of servicemen or women the report states x number of deaths then the fact that the families have been " Told " on occasion they change the statement
The Families have been " Informed" I feel the latter to be preferable if not the correct form ?? Told gives the impression of a bald statement or is it just me

***********************************************
I too remember the big Freeze the snow piled up several feet either side of the road in general after a while we all got on with it .
one down side was my soon to be brother in law got knocked from his bike ending up with a fractured Skull his head looked like crazy paving and it took some 9 months until he returned to a normal persona mood swings depression ended . Today he is as normal as Me. Tho me and Normal not usually heard in same sentence devilish

Re: Chilly morning

Good Morning!
Sun is up, temperatur (temperature for you Brits) is down.
The -9 C turned into some - 17C counting in the wind chill.

I know I'm a Viking and I should not behave wimpish,
but I'm neither finished nor Finnish,
so I'm really contemplating drying my clothes indoors now.

By the way: They are now predicting an ice winter - just as our politicians decided to sell our trusty old ice breakers d oh

just because they have been hibernating for 12 years (their names end in -bjørn, which means bear in Danish)
