Massive Amount of Errors. Help!

Hi,

I am getting massive amounts of errors on my machine. It is a Windows XP running 6.4.5 and there are huge numbers of errors of the sort here:

Incomplete read of 4036.000000 < 5KB for hpf2_00_v01.gif - truncating

[error] Checksum or signature error for faah5082_003648_MC_xMut_md16080_01_wcgrid.00033.gpf

It seems like almost every file is corrupt or something or my machine is having errors. I tried resetting the project, detaching etc. Should I totally re-install BOINC? Any help would be appreciated as this is a decent machine that gets lots of work done. THanks!

Jamie

Re: Massive Amount of Errors. Help!

Hi Jamie.

I can think of a few possible causes for seemingly corrupt files. The simplest, perhaps, is a misconfigured proxy. Have a look at one of the named files using a text editor. It may contain an error message from your proxy server instead of the requested file.

Beyond that, we will have to look at software conflicts and hardware problems - please check the proxy possibility first.

Note that our recommended BOINC version is 6.2.28.

Thank you.

Re: Massive Amount of Errors. Help!

Hi,

I am not running a proxy server, never have. I get tons of downloading errors and there is no way to look at 1 file since there are hundreds. I also get a download limit since the machine downloads the max amount of work in the day. I'd hate to be destroying good WU's on account of an error.

Could it be the upgrade to 6.4.5? I'll go back to 6.2.28 and give it a whirl.

A single example is all I ask for. No need to examine them all!

Re: Massive Amount of Errors. Help!

May have made a mistake here, oh well.

Tried to uninstall and re-install Boinc totally, reset and detached from WCG first and then did the re-install. Worked fine but now it won't even connect to the localhost! Keeps coming up with a connection error and won't connect to the computer. Never had that happen to me before. Any suggestions?

Now I know why I switched to a Mac Laptop...no problems at all :)

Re: Massive Amount of Errors. Help!

Hello jamie.kotlewski,
It looks as though you have a network problem, not a BOINC problem. What security software are you running? Has it been recently updated? How are you connected to the Internet?

Re: Massive Amount of Errors. Help!

Hi,

Thanks for all your help so far. I am not running any security stuff. I have 2 other computers hooked up to the same network and they have no problem connecting to WCG or getting work. It is just with the other one that it won't even connect to itself. It won't connect to the "localhost" so I can't even sign up with WCG or even attempt to get work. This is bizarre since I have never had this problem before. I could always install the program...

I tried rebooting the router and modem and all that. Nothing has been changed on it, nothing updated. I put the WCG boinc agent on as well. Has anyone had this problem before?

Re: Massive Amount of Errors. Help!

Can you look in TaskManager if the core client boinc.exe is running?
