As I wrote in the other thread, it's seemingly something with file permissions: Owned by boinc:boinc. That's an account created by the BOINC installer to which rights need to be added, to read for instance by user X. I just checked the gui_rpc file in the data_dir which is again x-link to another store /var/lib/boinc-client and mine said that I have the rights (took it onto my user account), group ''boinc'' can read and all others have no rights, so changed that to read for all, just in case, though I've not found there to be a problem to connect to the windows client over remote.

(I'm just trying track on my own system what you are looking at.. me being really noob noob at this too)
