No work available

I upgraded to the newer 6.2.28 client last week. After playing with some issues, I'm stuck at these following responses over and over again.

I'm confused by the maximum disk space line as I have manually changed the size over and over and it's not happy with it. I have about 6GB free on this HDD and it's set for only 1GB to use.

I have another machine still using the old client and it hasn't issues in months (besides locking up every once in a while)

It seems clear to me that you have installed BOINC to a directory that already contains a lot of data - possibly the filesystem root. Either that, or one of the other projects you are attached to has wasted a huge amount of space.

What if your BOINC data directory?

I would have accepted whatever the default was. How can I tell? I don't see anything in Preferences that allows me to choose.

Yes, it's the default for Windows XP. My HDD has 4.95GB free space still.

If you post the content of the global_prefs.xml and global_prefs_override.xml (if there is one) we might be able to tell a bit more.

When you found the Data_dir in file explorer, right click it to open the properties. It will tell you how much data is in the structure. Mine currently shows 335 mb with 3 days work buffered + 2 jobs in progress.

SGREVE, the key after seeing the global prefs, which I think are fine, to do the file explorer check to ascertain how much really is in the BOINC data_dir. (See BOINC start up log for the exact location)

Your settings have 2 GB or 50% marked, yet your log says there's 8.6 GB too much.

The preference you set for maximum disk space used by BOINC has been exceeded by 8613.29 MB.

SGREVE,
Could you please paste the start of your message log, from the "Starting Boinc..." line down to the first "(re)Starting task..." line.
That's the simplest way to know exactly how much disk space Boinc "thinks" it may use after processing the various parameters.
