Hi!
I was wondering if BOINC projects, (mainly, WCG projects running in BOINC) uses more the Integer Unit or the FPU. Or uses both units (Integer and FPU) at 100% for their calculations?. I know that all complex mathematical operations that involves floating points numbers like such the ones WGC calculates uses FPU extensively (for obvious reasons). But, what about the integer unit? And, if i change my "old" processor with 256KB L2 cache, to one with 512KB L2 (Socket A platform), I can notice the diference in WCG projects completion times? Thanks in advance! |

Our projects differ. Of the current projects, all are FPU-intensive except for Help Conquer Cancer, which is mostly integer.
More L2 cache should certainly make a difference - how much difference, I cannot say. |
