confused unable to get new task: Requesting 0 seconds of work

Since last month I seem to be unable to get new work. When updating by hand I get:

Wed Jan 21 21:12:52 2009|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request:
Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
Wed Jan 21 21:12:57 2009|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks

Resetting results in the same plus download of a number of files, but no new task.
Has anybody an idea what's going on ?

Re: unable to get new task: Requesting 0 seconds of work

maybe you just clicked "No new tasks" on the WCG in BOINC, or just have some tasks suspended

rilian, if a project has been reset, there are no tasks to keep in suspend status.

Re: unable to get new task: Requesting 0 seconds of work

Okay, you saw rilian's note on the erroneous No New Tasks button, which if hit changed to Allow New Tasks. You have to select WCG in the projects tab to see the button state.

As for what you posted, the only line off comparing to mine is

<connected_frac>-1.000000</connected_frac>

It was a value that was broken in an old BOINC release, which version?

Change it, when BOINC is fully exited, to something like

<connected_frac>0.900000</connected_frac>

If WCG is your only project, it is save to delete the client_state.xml + client_state_prev.xml as BOINC will recreate it with clean values.

Restart BOINC

Whatever you do, post the full start up message log, without hitting update. 'd like to see what the system decides to do.

edit: correct name

Re: unable to get new task: Requesting 0 seconds of work

Hello Giotto63,
Looking good. You reported those two WCG tasks and now you are working on climate prediction. The BOINC scheduler algorithm is complex and constantly changes in small details, such as long term debt to various projects.

Are you happy now or do you want to stop running other projects and start running WCG? I am a bit uncertain just what you want.

Lawrence

Re: unable to get new task: Requesting 0 seconds of work

Very much possible it's a multi project debt balance, WCG owing too much time to the other project, thus the scheduler won't fetch work from WCG until it's debt has been reduced.

There is a third party tool to reset the long term debt called BOINC DV or something: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/addons.php

Discussed here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev//forum_thread.php?id=1901&nowrap=true

smile Re: unable to get new task: Requesting 0 seconds of work

Ok, it looks like I'm back in business smile After I set the other project to 'no new tasks', WCG got new ones !

Thanks for your help!
