Strange bedfellows; SUN Ultra 60 and Debian?

I have been a member for a few years, running on both Mac and Win-machines. Then I got a SUN Ultra 60 with 2 CPU's.

Unfortunately I can not make it work. I am a newbie to the world of *nix, so any help would be appreciated.

My device turns up very nicely under my "device"-tab on worldgrid. But my new computer still stubbornly refuses to download any workunits. Should I resign and be content that I have a very nic, albeit noisy computer?

I have restarted the client, stoped my projects and then restated them. The ?warning? "Message from server: platform 'sparc-unknown-linux-gnu' not found" comes back regurlarly.

Regards/M

Linux on SPARC is not supported by WCG.

SETI and SIMAP are the only BOINC projects which has a Solaris SPARC application.

Re: Strange bedfellows; SUN Ultra 60 and Debian?

Hello Max_Headroom35,
None of our applications are coded to run on SPARC. You will have to check the BOINC site. Off hand, I only recall SETI with SPARC applications, but there are probably several more.

Just checked. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php lists SETI ( http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ ) and Einstein@home ( http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/ ).

He uses Linux on SPARC, not Solaris. - Linux SPARC is only supported by SETI and SIMAP. - For SIMAP the application is a available at the SIMAP homepage and must be installed manualy. And the SETI application is available from third parties (boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php).
