Windows XP error "must close" wcg_hcc1_img_6.06_windows_intelx86

Hi,

I didn't find this addressed, that I could see, and it seems to be a problem specific to the wcg_hcc1_img_6.06_windows_intelx86 application, not BOINC, so I hope this is the right place.

The Help Conquer Cancer application had a crash that forced that application to be close, but I couldn't find any error that seems to match in the BOINC Messages tab.

Here is the copied error messages:

Hello and welcome on the forum, Matthew!
Once this WU has been reported to the servers would you please click on its "Error" status in your Results Status page and copy/paste its message log into this thread.

You can speed up the reporting from the Projects tab of the Advanced view of BoincMgr if necessary.

Edit: Pardon me (but please confirm) if what you have posted under "Error signature" is this message log. I think I have never seen an HCC error log, so I am not too sure how it looks! smile

Cheers. Jean.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for your reply.

No, the "Error signature" was not the BOINC error log, but the message in a Windows XP system pop-up window.

There does not seem to be a BOINC error log message, that I could find.

I only see two workunits for Help Conquer Cancer on the "Results Status" page for this computer. One is a current work unit, and the other says "valid". Therefore, I am guessing that whatever the error was it was not fatal to the workunit, but seems to have finished OK.

There were two files generated by the Windows error functions at these addresses:
C:\DOCUME~1\DADAND~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER64f9.dir00\wcg_hcc1_img_6.06_windows_intelx86.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\DADAND~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER64f9.dir00\appcompat.txt

Unfortunately, I did not get them right away and now they are gone, apparently because they were only "Temp" files. I tried to use a program to find and recover deleted files but it did not find them.

~~Matt

Re: Windows XP error "must close" wcg_hcc1_img_6.06_windows_intelx86

MatthewBChambers, what happened was that the HCC application crashed, then the BOINC error handler crashed when it tried to generate debug information about the first crash.

This does happen sometimes. In your case, though, you are using a new version of BOINC that we do not support. BOINC 6.4.5 has not been tested and approved by World Community Grid yet. Have a look at the process for approving a new BOINC version: http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/BOINC_beta_testing (Berkeley have a history of releasing BOINC versions before they are ready.)

As for your specific error: if it doesn't recur, we can safely ignore it. If it happens frequently, post again, and we will examine it much more closely.
