Two minor problems after the move

Presuming the move is complete AND validated, I've found only two minor problems from it. The first was that one of my three machines would get the http error message on any and every upload and the upload would fail. I did a file-exit to close BOINC completely and then restarted. The uploads worked fine then. This may help someone else if they're seeing this. So that problem is fixed as far as I'm concerned.

The second problem will require admin action. We had one team member disappear from MyOnlineTeam. Username is johnsduff. It's also more of a musiance than a problem as that is a user that never returned a result but the code I have that "cooks" our team stats doesn't allow for members to disappear. Retiring is fine, going inactive is fine but members don't simply cease to exist. This may be a symptom of something more so that's the main reason I mention it.

Also, it appears that the evening stats update will be taking about one-quarter to one-third of the time it took before the move. VERY NICE!!!
Amazingly well done move!!! applause

Re: Two minor problems after the move

Hi Keith!
Presuming the move is complete AND validated,...

I think you are presuming too fast. Remember bbover3's post,
We anticipate that the move will be fully completed during the week of January 12, 2009.

Since the cut itself was expected to last less than 48 hours that means that there are several other validation steps to pass before being able to say that the move is successfully completed. It's excellent that the most visible and disturbing step has gone so smoothly and so quickly, but we cannot yet feel completely safe about possible "collateral damages".

Also, it appears that the evening stats update will be taking about one-quarter to one-third of the time it took before the move. VERY NICE!!

Here again, we should wait a little longer before sizing more precisely how much time has been saved on the stats updates. Today's Yesterday's production has been about half a normal one, and also we are working on a brand new database with fresh indexes and a clean organization. When new members, teams, WUs, etc... are added as time goes, maybe the benefit will not be as amazing as tonight. But still that should be much shorter than before. smile

Regarding the problems you have reported, thank you for mentioning them. As you say they might be useful to other members or to the techs when checking that everything is fine (or not).

Edit: I have forgotten that I was writing on the day after the move... smile

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Two minor problems after the move

The stats figures were 103 CPU years for January 8. The weekdays normally seem to run over 200 CPU years if that were a lead to a statistics run time. Of course, so early after the move don't expect for all performance tweaks to be already in place.

Re: Two minor problems after the move

Update: The Sunday January 11 noon stats run showing 94 CPU years was accessible at 12:25 already. Wow, just 19 minutes.

If history is not deceiving, will there be a return to 4 times a day? Suspect those would last 15 minutes or less. More updates, yet less down time overall than the old midday refresh.

I've added johnsduff back to MyOnlineTeam. Seeing as he hasn't returned a result in a long time, I don't think he's going to care. Let me know if you need me to change the join date for him to work with your stats, or if it's enough that he just shows up.

I checked the old DB and he was dropped from the team there, so it's not necessarily a problem with the migration.

Interesting, he was in the stats from 1/7 end of day but not there 1/8. The new date doesn't appear to be a problem yet but if you could set it to 6/25/07 (the original value), it may prove wise and prevent a problem in the future since that's what I have in my archived stats. I just wonder if this could be related to any of the other reports of folks losing some of their credits and such?

Re: Two minor problems after the move

Thanks for the tweak. I'm enjoying how much faster the stats run - midday AND end of day. NICE!
