confused Throttling while computer in use.

Is there a way to make the computer only use one core of a dual core system while the computer is in use? at the moment on some dual core laptops are burning my lap while im using them so ive changed the settings so it doesnt do any computing while im using it. The computer is nice and cool while im doing this but I would like to have it keep me warm without burning me tongue

Re: Throttling while computer in use.

In BOINC Manager advanced view, advanced, preferences, look close to the bottom of the screen.

Change to read

On multiprocessor systems, use at most [ 1 ] processors

Re: Throttling while computer in use.

Such a function requested a few times at Berkeley is not available. There are 3rd party throttle tools to quickly achieve this though. Unless there are heat issues I never notice BOINC running at any percent but that will possibly depend on the CPU power.

Re: Throttling while computer in use.

Threadmaster is one of these 3rd party throttlers. It's a bit difficult to set up, but one of the best overall.

Re: Throttling while computer in use.

If the laptop can stand it at 100%, there are also CPU coolers with a fan that go under it. The ones I have seen are sort of narrow wedge shaped, to incline the laptop a bit.
