Motivation for joining WCG

Just wondering: Has anyone ever conducted a poll of some sort to find out what the typical WCG volunteer looks like (male/female, age, etc), and what kind of things prompt people to joining this great project?

Re: Motivation for joining WCG

Nobody said it had to be done on this forum with this software. I just saw that SETI@Home had done such a poll some time ago, and I wondered why WCG hadn't attempted something like that.

It might help WCG to determine what kinds of motivation the users value the most, and how to address potential donors, as well.

Re: Motivation for joining WCG

I don't appreciate your condescending tone. I don't see why my question deserves that kind of answering.

But to clarify in case you don't fully understand: There's this new thing out there called hypertext links. They can be used to promote something on one website (for example a poll), and when people click such a 'link' (as it is commonly known), they will be transferred to another website. This other website does not have to rely on the same software as this one.

Re: Motivation for joining WCG

The only place to ask a question about the use of WCG is here on WCG.....and in any case you still would not get any corrext views as the proportion of WCG users who actually make use of the forums is very small.....I hope this is condescending enought for you.....

and I do not appreciate your tone from someone who has hardly done anything for WCG to someone who has been here from the day it started and stayed with it through thick and thin.....so stick that in your poll and smoke it!

Re: Motivation for joining WCG

That's interesting.
If Trommes with 1 result is already on position 406024 from 422990 I was wondering how many are here with more than 1000 results?
I think it will really help rather than hurt to see our real numbers. How many are there that are contributing on a daily basis or at least who are contributing in a significant way.
And by the way, Scribe, Your tone surprises me also. Maybe you just have a bad day or something. No biggie... but lets return to being good one with another.

Even one result counts. If 1 billion people will make that 1 result it will be 5 times all WCG work up until now.

My 2 cents.

Re: Motivation for joining WCG

And further more,
We should clear those bogus numbers on the Devise section.
1,157,769 Devices? If we will have so many devices returning results (even 1 per day), we will have 1,157,769 result daily if not more as some devices are more powerful than others.
I understand that those devices contributed once, so we can leave this number there if you really are interested BUT LETS PUT ANOTHER COUNTER WITH OUR REAL MEMBER #s AND DEVICE #s!!!
So let’s clear the bogus numbers and start fresh. We should strive to build on truth our network not on inflationist thinking.
