I have a WU currently just over 50% (its kinda long: 21h estimated total on 3.47Ghz core2) that shows negative energy in the graphics (temperature is about 280-300K a.k.a room temp.) Something like -2000 kcal/mole. Since I dont really know what this "energy" measures I wonder if its an erroneous WU or is it something special?

That's good, we'll be absorbing the sun's energy while destroying more of it at the same time...

Negative energy is good. In chemistry, lower energy states are more stable.

If you are looking for binding strength, yes. But the CEP researchers still haven't answered our question about exactly what the graphs mean. They need to find that magic balance between enough information and information we can still understand.

When I hit my first WU that showed negative energy, I thought for sure that my WU had discovered something like Cold Fusion!!!
Hey, it doesn't hurt to dream big about my contribution when I'm not a scientist and have no idea what the numbers mean. Since then I have calmed down and am happy to just know that I am helping move the research along. |

That's the problem with researchers - speaking or writing to other researchers and not putting things in layman terms for everyone else to understand. I had the same problem when I worked at NASA-JPL until a Congressional Committee that was funding my research requested my grant reports in plain english.
