LOL, yea. I think I would have to shoot myself in the foot if I had bandwidth limits. Down here in Florida with Brighthouse Networks...we don't have limits...thankfully.

yes distributed storage is a nice idea but curently with my computers and what i use them for (gameing) i would hate to be doing some gameing and suddenly have a LAG do to some scientist retrieving data off my harddrive and eating up my bandwith.
----------------------------------------I am sure in a few years distributed storage will be more common but for now with my computers and my bandwith I would not join into distributed storage. If it works and it can be proven not to slow me down when I need my computer and my internet connection speed then I might be intrested. ![]() |

Just like WCG, this wouldn't be for everyone...only the users who could do this without interrupting their daily lives. Like with me, I have a server that I run 24/7 and wouldn't know the difference if something was being done on it on my network at home. |

Hello Knightro2, Thanks for pointing out Storage@Home. Here is the December 2008 wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storage@home Just off the top of my head, I don't think we are ready for this right now. Not in a world where so many people have 10-gigabytes per month communication limits. Obviously that will rapidly change. I still remember when ISDN sounded like a glorious future. Lawrence Looks like some of the information about it has been moved here: http://www.stanford.edu/~beberg/Storage@home2007.pdf Also item 48 at: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Papers#ntoc6 [Edit 1 times, last edit by robertmiles at Jan 6, 2009 3:29:54 PM] |

Yea, not sure what is going on with Storage@home. I guess they are still developing it.
