cleanenergy,
----------------------------------------How much ENERGY has been wasted on work units that produced errors? How much time has been wasted so far producing errors for you that could have been used producing results for a project that is ready? i.e. HCC or one of the other projects here at WCG? ![]() |

3 days 2 hours 16 minutes 32 seconds and 43 tents of a second ...
----------------------------------------Wait, I just made that all up ... ![]() Seriously ... They acknowledged that the process has problems. And while I do not like lost time any more than the next person, well, things happen. I have long thought and advocated that in that some of these types of task die through no fault of the participant that the draconian no credit at all for a failure should be looked at... But, that is a project decision and while I do not like it, and have look used CPDN as an example of how to do it "right" ... it is something we have to live with. I grant that the tasks to this point do not take as long as those on CPDN, but the policy of CPDN to "pay" for work done even on failures (up to the last "trickle") does make sense ... I don't suggest full payment of credit in that the point of not paying is to discourage "cheating" where the participant is just trashing tasks to get paid ... I think that this type of abuse can be detected and that participant "frozen out" ... Anyway ... Personally I appreciate when a project at least has the respect to acknowledge that there are problems and that they are working on them ... and that the Mac client is on the way ... (so where is my beta work? )[Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 1, 2009 12:38:06 PM] |

It's nice to hear such an update, and I'm pleased you have learned the cause of some of the issues causing WU's to error. I think it fair to say the error rate combined with the length of some WU's has made some folks unhappy. Hopefully this means the problems will be sorted soon and work can restart on completing the linux and mac variants.
Thanks for all your hard work, and a happy new year to crunchers, scientists, forum mods, and the backroom Geeks at IBM. ![]() |

cleanenergy, How much ENERGY has been wasted on work units that produced errors? How much time has been wasted so far producing errors for you that could have been used producing results for a project that is ready? i.e. HCC or one of the other projects here at WCG? Personaly that is one of the issues you get when workin new projects you get errors now and then, even with HCC work units I have goten an error or 2 now and then. even if a result has an error or a few errors it dosnt mean it is a useless. @ cleanenergy thanks for the updates... I cant wait to start crunchin phase 2 and good luck fixing any errors with the Phase 1 that are still out there these responses from the scientists help modivate alot of us to continue to crunch Got my silver... going for gold before end of January ![]() |
