There are a number of changes which could not happen before the datacenter move and the database upgrade, but that does not mean that they would (and even less should) happen at this particular time.
----------------------------------------In fact I am quite sure that anything not strictly necessary for these essential and critical operations will not be attempted, in order to not add to the complexity of this exercise. Cheers. Jean. |

How long does the team expect the outage to be on Jan 8th? Hope it's not from the 8th to the 12th. Will have to queue up 4 to 5 days worth of work.

Would the excerpt paragraph from the announcement contain the information?
When we are ready to transfer the databases, we will have to stop the website, forums and grid. We expect this step to occur around Jan 8th. During this time members will only see a page that explains what World Community Grid is and contains information about the progress of the change over and invites new members to return in a few days. Also during this time, the BOINC clients will not be able to communicate with the servers. When: Probably January 8 How Long: Few Days Progress: "members will only see a page that explains what World Community Grid is and contains information about the progress of the change over" |

I don't know if it possible from the server side but it would be kind of cool to "preload" the clients with enough work to keep crunching through that outage time so they don't sit idle...this is mainly for the members who don't actively monitor the forums and announcements. I plan to boost my queue for those days.

Sadly not.
Well, there are ways.... but it would all blow up in our faces; BOINC isn't designed for that. |
