Hey,
I am still using version 5.10.45 and thought it was time to upgrade. I looked through the upgrade directions but still have a question. Do I need to stop receiving tasks and run them all out before upgrading or will the will the new version pickup where the older left off. I don't want to loose any work. Thanks, Randy |

Just goes to WCG initial home page and download the new version. keep your id and pw logged on and the download will install same wrk units for you under same machine without any disturb. Happened in this way for me when I upgraded few weeks ago.

Hello sergej,
There is very little advantage, as such. If you are running into irritating bugs, you can try upgrading to see if that squashes them. Lawrence |

I just upgraded. It is usually a painless process - you dont even need to stop the old client, and afterwards, I am sure I remember it just starting itself again.
----------------------------------------This version, it seems, requires a system restart. WHY? BOINC has previously been low impact as far as the system is concerned, ie self contained, no registry changes etc. So what does it do to Windows to require a system restart? |

What is the advantage to upgrading? I'm still on 5.10.30 If you're on Vista the BOINC version 6 is much easier to install. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 23, 2008 12:37:48 AM] |

I believe it has to do with version 6.x.xx adding a Boinc user (and group) to Windows. I installed without the add service / add Boinc user option and no reboot was required. |

So what does it do to Windows to require a system restart? You probably installed as a service (which is probably the best choice) and then the system has to be rebooted for the service to start.. Cheers. Jean. |
