Only using 1 of 2 cores - C2D 7300

Just got a new hard drive installed in my machine, so I reformatted my usual way and got things up and running only to find Client 6.2.28 only uses one of my CPU cores. I had both running full tilt on 5.10.45 no sweat, and still do on other machines, but am going to wait to upgrade those clients til this is figured out. Oddly enough, the initial report in the messages tab reports two processors, but the benchmark only says 1! Any ideas?

Hello cbach1997,
Here are some related posts with suggestions:

Please tell us what you find out. We are still trying to narrow down and define this problem.

Re: Only using 1 of 2 cores - C2D 7300

The first thread had my solution. I had to increase the multiprocessor utilization to 100% (this is one of two percentages you can now set in the new client). Not sure if this means both are 100% or if it says use 100% of the processor inventory (2 of 2 for me now!)
-----------------------------------------------------------
BOINC version 6.2.28 or 6.2.19, though the logic for the WCG pack is slightly different, always taking the lowest value, rounded down to the nearest whole processor core, meaning 99% is 50% on a dual core, speak 1.

1. Go to BOINC Manager > Advanced view > Advanced menu > local preferences > processor usage tab and set the "On Multi Processor systems, use at most 100% CPU time".
----------------------------------------------------------
Thank you!

Re: Only using 1 of 2 cores - C2D 7300

Apologies, when drafting that FAQ base I copy typed the portion after the % sign from the subsequent line. Corrected it of course reads:

""On Multi Processor systems, use at most 100% of the processors""

the % of CPU time is the partial use of all cores being e.g. 60% using that amount of each processors time.

Anyway, if step 1 solved it, we can leave that one at top of the list :D
