I have a WU
----------------------------------------BETA_E000001_665A_00001300r https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/devi...us.do?workunitId=45271732 suddenly appeared as aborted. I did not manually abort this WU, and though I can't name them all individually, the machine had several beta WU's this morning that it was crunching when I left earlier this morning for work. (3 beta, 5 normal I believe) [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 9, 2008 9:28:26 PM] |

The techs can abort work units, if they need to.
They rarely abort work that is in progress, but with a beta test, sometimes that is the most practical course. This is one of the reasons we advise members not to abort beta work themselves. |

Thank you,
I've seen WU's aborted before in other projects, but never one that was in progress. I guess there is a first for everything. :) |

The work units that I had that aborted had run a long time, I may or may not have been given points credit not really that important but what is annoying is that the CPU time has not been credited, if it had I would have the beta badge, I am not normally one to worry about points and credit but the BETA is a tough nut to crack and would like to have got it this time.

Sharing your sentiments, but am honestly doubtful if a rule would get added to not abort work if a badge has not been obtained or to grant the time-so-far. 1 valid before the 7th was canceled, with 2 in error had a potential to error out on yours and that happening in the last minute.

Hiya, the CPU time was carried out by my computer irrespective of weather it was aborted or not, time which if spent on another project would have gone through fine, I no, its BETA work and its a challenge, but i did the hours with no recognition of that. I think it is only fair that those hours are looked at. Sorry if you answered that in some way before |

Yes, in this part "... or to grant the time-so-far" (on a task).

On a related, but different subject. I had three of the linux beta WU's, every one of them errored out after a few hours crunching with no credit of points or time. I don't mind too much as thems the breaks with testing new projects and there'll be more betas along in the future.
----------------------------------------However the others who got copies of those units all had them error out (except a couple of no-returns). Some poor souls had put in 80-90 hrs crunching on those same WU's. Mabye as a gesture of goodwill some time/points could be granted to those folks who gave up 80 odd hours of crunching on the betas only to see them error out? Oh, how you and I are thinking alike, there should be a way of working out these lost hours, to be honest its just not right to get nothing in return for days of CPU time lost on an aborted task, I was working for more than 20 hours on some of them for nothing.
I am not very happy about it. Even aborted task are useful to the techs, I am sure I have read that before. |
