Something happened just 5 minutes ago to restore the web / net performance... New project, loads and loads of people downloading all these CEP project parts, visiting the website and forums.

Hello KerSamson,
A few years ago I had the same problem. It turned out that my firewall was blocking a signal from my computer. After a few hours, the router would cut it off since there was no proper DNS handshake. Rebooting would restore the connection for a few hours. I finally solved this network problem after playing around setting different values in my firewall. It took hours to get it right. I do not know what is wrong on your system, but it seems to act the same way my networking problem did. Lawrence |

Hello Lawrence,
----------------------------------------Indeed it is very confusing. Because several hosts are using the same connection and firewall, I do not consider that the firewall box is causing the problem (maybe it is an inapproriate assumption ! ...). I suspected initially ZoneAlarm (software firewall) but if ZA would be the cause, Boinc will never be able to communicate outside. In fact, Boinc is able to do it after reboot (even as service). I've reinstalled boinc (still 5.10.45) and it seems to run correctly. But I stayed logged in the system for some hours before I left my account. Since then, it seems to work. I am aware that all these measures are very empiric and unsatisfying; they are neither justified nor based on a structured analysis. I hope it will run well again ! Thank you for your answer. Yves |

Hello Yves!
----------------------------------------If you have LAN connections have you tried to swap two connections to see if it is a specific port of the router or if it is this machine (and its cable) which has this problem? Cheers. Jean. |

Hello Jean !
----------------------------------------In such cases every idea is welcome ! I could answer to you that without any change (excepted reboot) boinc is able to communicate properly ! ... But if the problem happens again, I would follow your recommendation, who knows ? ... Cheers, Yves |
