Germany: Petition for distributed computing in public institutions

English
Today, the german non-profit organization "Rechenkraft.net e.V." which aims to support public science and developement by the use of distributed computing techniques filed a petition to the german Bundestag (parliament) to donate the spare time of non-critical computer systems for science.

The more people sign this petition until 06.01.2009, the higher our weight in parliament will be. 50.000 petitioners (not sure if these petitioners must come from Germany) during the first three weeks would allow us to present our ideas at the committee for petitions in the Bundestag itself.

We provide a page on the subject in our wiki for english users, which will be updated periodically. You can find it here:
http://www.rechenkraft.net/wiki/index.php?title=Verein:E-Petition/en

Deutsch

Re: Germany: Petition for distributed computing in public institutions

Sadly but understandably, it looks like it's only Germany resident only.

Hope you get the needed numbers.

cheers

Awesome overextension of Europeanism, not even a nationality check. Registered, got email and signed in. Let me rummage and see what else there is that can use help to further other petitions. More windmills, speed limit on the German Autobahn, max 90 fuer alle Bundeslaender ;>)

Yes, this one got my vote too:

Re: Germany: Petition for distributed computing in public institutions

This is a great idea! I'd love to see more computer cycles be harvested. Have you posted this petition at Seti.Germany? I'm sure you could gain a lot of support and signatures there. How would you choose which project(s) to run on so many computers?

Viel Glück!
