Can you explain what I did wrong. I upgraded from 5.10.45 by downloading and installing from the home page. The instructions seemed to be as expected. The problem is that I was detached from the 6 WU in progress and they appear to be lost. I thought that the install was supposed to migrate all the in progress jobs automatically. Is the problem if you change from Single user to Shared user or the inverse?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling as that was a workaround. This bug was reported a long time ago in the development cycle, but seemingly not fixed completely.
----------------------------------------What version was this? 6.2.28? If so please insert that in your opening post title. cheers

Was the problem that I used the defaults presented for the 2 directories. Both program and data were defaulted as C:\program files\boinc ?

That is positively wrong. On Vista the defaults would be e.g.
----------------------------------------Client: C:\Program files\BOINC ProjectsData C:\ProgramData\BOINC Where someone in past manually used <data_dir> config variable to place the "data" somewhere else, is possible with 5.10, the installer would just keep that and not migrate the data. An install with both going to e.g. C:\Program Files\BOINC should have told you that this is not acceptable and ask for a change. Another member reported that the install would just exit. Sadly to come out with 6.2.28 Final when not reported during any of the beta's.

Win XP
Upgrade from Version 6.2.19 (Berkeley) -> 6.2.28 (WCG). No uninstalling before, only let finish the tasks before and stopped the boinc service. After installation Boinc is working well, but two remarks: 1. After finishing the installation boinctray.exe is not restarted. I've to boot for it. Perhaps while I started Boinc with the service and not at the end with the installation wizard? 2. After every boot Boinc Manager is started as an icon in the tray. Not everyone wants this. If you don't want this, you have to remove the automagic run entry from your registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ Not so common for most of the users. I think this is done, because of a shortcut in the User or All users startup directory is easily to remove. Cheers |

Zigfried,
----------------------------------------Try again and specifically pay attention to the data directory. It Must be different from the Program Directory i.e should NOT go into C:\Program Files\BOINC, but something like C:\User Data\BOINC ciao
