Hello,
I'm running now the WCG - Boinc client 5.10.45 with no problems for over a year. And I've tried to install the new version of Boinc 6.2.25 windows intelx86.exe, but ""the installation-wizard was interrupted before Boinc could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."" In the wizard is also mentioned the two directories: one for the Program and the other the Data. I keep this two possibilities. After many tries to install the 6.2.19 or 6.2.25, I'm back with running the old version. So nu update ! What went wrong? It's me or the new version? I'm running XP Professional dual core 3,2 GHZ. Help me ! ![]() |

Hi Onno!
----------------------------------------I am afraid it's you. This message is normally issued when the user is interrupting the installation procedure. You may have clicked the wrong choice somewhere, or maybe you have not accepted the license agreement? By the way, we are now testing version 6.2.28 as per the following post: Please help us beta test the 6.2.28 World Community Grid - BOINC software But since there have been only minor changes between those two versions you would have had the same problem with the latest one. Please retry and read carefully before answering any message at any step. Cheers. Jean. |

Thanks Jean for your reply,
But: on my computer I've different directories (partitions): Games, Word, Music, Photos, Backup, a.s.o. And also an unique large partition for the UD agent and this for the last few years. Now the Boinc is running on this partition. With and during the installation of the 6.2.25 I get the choice of the two directories: Program and Data. The both directories I dropped in the Boinc and that becomes the interruption of the installation and problem ?? Also the Data-directory in the root (XP = C:\) and the Program-directory in the Boinc will get a problem and interruption ?? Now I have put the Program-directory in the Boinc and the Data in a very different directory, somewhere on the hard disk and see: it works !!?? I don't get this. The WGC and Boinc manager is running now for a day with no problems at all and even better than before. Maybe the root-directory (C:\) is causing the problem? I don't know... The 6.2.28 is now running. Onno Hillebregt PS sorry for my English, hopefully you can read between my lines. |

The install prevents the placement of BOINC Client software and the data directory within the same ..\BOINC structure. It has to be e.g. software in X:\BOINC and the data in X:\User Data\BOINCdata.
----------------------------------------My installation on one machine is: Software: C:\Program Files\BOINC Data: D:\Application Data\BOINCdata Latter's the drive I back up semi frequently.

Onno, the reason for this is that the installer copies all the data from the old program directory to the new data directory during the upgrade.
Rather than bother to handle the situation where they are the same properly, the developers chose simply to prohibit it. I'm afraid you are the victim of lazy (and sloppy) programming. |

So, to put it simply, the program directory and the data directory must be different and, although it seems that none of us has really tested it, it is probably simpler/better/safer that one is not a subdirectory of the other.
----------------------------------------Back to your own installation with a partition dedicated to WCG (say, W:) you may have something like W:\Boinc-Programs\ and W:\Boinc-Data\. Personally I have both in a WCG directory, i.e. C:\WCG\Boinc-Program\ and C:\WCG\Boinc-Data\. Cheers. Jean. |
