I hope I'm not replicating another thread, but why is WCG the only boinc project that does not have a link to this web site from the list of projects at the bottom of my account pages of other boinc projects? The rest seem to all have links to the different boinc project sites. WCG, of course, is simply plain text on other project sites.

That is a very good question.
The BOINC code treats World Community Grid as a special case and doesn't show the link. if ($project->url == "http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/") { $x = $project->name; } else { $x = "<a href=\"$project->url"."show_user.php?userid=$project->id\">$project->name</a>"; } Why? |

....perhaps because we ARE special?
Most of the other BOINC 'project' that I know are single BOINC project, WCG is multi-project and maybe is unique? |

Well, yes - of course. But that's no reason to leave the link off!
Like with many of BOINC's misfeatures, I suspect it is a case of bad management defeating better judgement. |

It's been questioned over at the Berkeley forum some considerable time ago. Noticed last week in a BOINC generated list that WCG is not shown... ah yes over at BOINCstats it was.

It's been questioned over at the Berkeley forum some considerable time ago. Noticed last week in a BOINC generated list that WCG is not shown... ah yes over at BOINCstats it was. Well that's interesting. Perhaps someone at WCG should send the BOINC folks an official letter and request the change. There is no reason for it, it just seems to have happened. Sounds like time to fix the puppy and be done with it pronto. One of the other posts here mentioned that it is a multi-project, so it is different. That's not a good explanation either: Lattice is a multi- as well, and it's a link. Sorry folks, but there seems to be no good explanation, so maybe an official letter will finally get BOINC off the dime. WCG deserves the attention. ![]() |

Dimes a dozen, there are a number of "multi project" grids around, Scribe though right... we are very special because it's anything humanitarian here whilst elsewhere it's a focused segment like math or malaria or climate prediction or different ways to discern aliens.

I think that it is due to the fact that we don't run the standard PHP based BOINC website code and therefore the
show_user.php?userid=XXXX link wouldn't work. Once we add support for that link, then I'm sure they will remove that special case. We will look at that when we review our integration with the account managers. However, that will be after we have switched to the new hosting environment so it will be a few months. |
