Electricity Cost & Your Computer

This Information is based on research supplied by one of our members, ThrillKillKult
Credit goes to ThrillKillKult for researching and making this information available

Okay, after reading all the feedback on another site about electric bills skyrocketing which didn't make sense to
me, so being i have an ammeter and l33t math skills i decided to see for myself:

Equipment: DSA-600 amp clamp calibrated at essco and a calculator.

Computer: Homebuilt XP1800 with antec truepower 330 watt psu.

Procedure: built breakout cable so i could isolate the 115v feed from the return for an accurate amp reading.
Put PC power cable through breakout cable with clamp.

Remember kids Power is equal to Volts times Amps. 115vac is the constant.

Results:

Booting up PC: .99A which is 114 watts

Windows with WCG running: 1.04A or 120watts
BTW ran this a couple of hours and it stayed pretty steady.

turned off WCG: .92A 0r 106 watts

So WCG draws 14 watts per hour on My work PC. at less than $0.05 per KwH (masselec
http://www.nationalgridus.com/masse...rates/4_res.asp ) that is about $6 a year if I ran it 24/7.

Cliff notes: It cost's about the price of 1 supersized McDonald's Meal a year to run WCG. So
when recruiting and you hear this kind of concerns, you can reassure them it is all nonsense.
