I have been looking at the following message for the last 45 minutes:
----------------------------------------The page you requested is currently unavailable because the statistics are being updated. The statistics update will finish in about 0 minutes 0 seconds. I know there was a problem a couple of weeks back with the stats page being "unlocked" b4 it was updated. Did someone forget to open the lock tonight?

The Padlock for the nightly statistics run goes on for about 2 hours and looking at the posting time, you were right in the middle.
----------------------------------------The nightly procedure of stats updates (individual and team and the recently added "by project" My Grid publishing) starts at 00:06 UTC, but before the shut-out begins, 15 minutes and longer can pass. Now, before the "estimated" remaining run time was fixed, and 45 minutes sounds like another calibration is needed for the techs to look at. cheers

Actually it's the lack of free time that prompted my post!

The Padlock for the nightly statistics run goes on for about 2 hours and looking at the posting time, you were right in the middle. Is it deemed more desirable not to show the old statistics while they are being updated? If it's practical, I wouldn't mind seeing the old stats during this time, perhaps with a short displayed message informing me that they are in the process of being updated and will be 'finished in xx hours and xx minutes', similar to what we see now during the update. |

Think the interrelations are too strong. The Statistics page when fetched accesses the database and this in past has caused for the update process to grind to a halt. Creating a view that accesses the situation from the previous run would require the on-line (temporary) store of the last statistics information. With the added "by project contribution" feature to My Grid that seems a lot of information to replicate making the stats run longer again, i guess. At any rate it's an idea to pass to the web developer.
----------------------------------------WCG is moving up to faster / bigger hardware and a newer DB version allowing more tricks, so at least expect lock out times to shorten, until we grow much bigger.

Is it my imagination - or does statistics processing continually takes longer to process as time goes on?

Two hours and 35 minutes to update ... and another hour plus at mid-day ... how antiquated.

I vaguely remembered reading somewhere that once the UD servers were switched off and everything was switched to BOINC the updates would go more smoothly and quickly.
