According to the announce for the website changes, how dates are displayed now is dependent on the user's browser language setting. I'm trying to get the dates to display in the mm/dd/yyyy format as before. After the website changes, I'm seeing m/d/yy instead. Browser is IE6 and language is English. Anyone know what language setting I need to use to get back to the format I want?

Sorry, I don't think that's possible.

My queries use Spanish (as set in IE), to produce 9/25/08 when it arrives in Excel. Firefox is my regular browser, so I'm not effected by the MS quirks of excessive integration.

Hi everybody,
----------------------------------------indeed, the date format is currently wrong (only US format despite of the selected language). Previously the date format displayed by selecting French was the ISO format (yyyy-mm-dd). Because of this bug, I am currently unable to maintain my own statistical report. Earlier during the summer, we discussed already this point and it was mentioned that in the future dates will be displayed only according to ISO-8601. I think that it was a fair agreement and many of us are using the WCG statistics for performing some dedicated reports as well as for performance monitoring. PLEASE ! Patch the web-site soonest as possible in order to provide again the ISO format at least for one language. If I remember correctly, it is only one parameter to set accordingly. Have a nice week-end ! Cheers, Yves |

The ISO format is only provided by the XML version.
The other languages all provide a localised date format. The format is whatever the default is for that locale - set by Java, not by World Community Grid. So, not a bug. This behaviour is by design. It isn't practical to specify particular formats for each language. If you are extracting the statistics for processing, you should be using the XML. Please ask if you need help with this. Note: the locale is set from your browser, and is independent of the language you have chosen to display the site in. You can use any locale - but from my tests, only the month/day order is changed. |

Hello Didactylos,
----------------------------------------I'm wondering about this "featurefull" implementation. I do not pretend being a "standard user" but let me describe my usual configuration:
You can imagine how uneasy it is for the WCG web site to evaluate correctly the used date format ! I will not ask how time consuming was the current implementation, ensuring that it works more or less satisfactorily with the various combinations of browser, operating system, languages, ... Instead to invest time for not requested automatisms, I would have appreciated to be able to fetch my results in XML formats (what it requested by many of us since already a long time but still not implemented). I am really disappointed about this evolution in particular regarding the development of not requested features and at the same time neglecting user's requirements and wishes. I hope this situation can evolve in a better way during the next time. Cheers, Yves --- PS: By the way, the year is only displayed as short (and ambiguous) 2-digits format instead to use the full length 4-digits representation. |

The only thing used by WCG is the language requested by Firefox. If you installed the US English version, then this is likely to be en-US. The website has no idea about your operating system language settings - Firefox doesn't (can't) send them.
XML for the Results Status page is on the todo list, together with many other requests. Sometimes we have to wait years - the techs are hugely overworked. As I recall, locale-specific dates were requested by far more people than the XML. In the Java environment, the dates were a quick fix. WCG do aim to keep as many people happy as possible. PS: all dates are this century, so there is no ambiguity. 4 digits are better, obviously - but the Java default format uses 2. |

OK !
----------------------------------------I accept to change the default language setting in Firefox from US-English to something different, for example like French. The problem is that the date does not appear in a correct format. Because of the missing century, Excel is confused by taking over the date and produces a big mess interpreting the dates sometime as "yy-mm-dd" and sometime as "dd-mm-yy". PLEASE ! Avoid minimalism ! I agree that I am probably not a "standard" user with a "standard" configuration. But the previous implementation was OK and fitted for many of us. We found some solutions for minimizing a little bit the effort of producing statistics. This new (and approximative) implementation destroy the efforts previously done and it does not reflect the discussions during the summer about this point. If the techs are really overworked, why did they invest so much time for a sophisticated solution instead to keep the previous implementation or to switch consequently to ISO ? I repeat, I am terribly disappointed having to fight for such simple requests like I have to fight in my daily business with "close-minded" IT departments. Usually, I do support, encourage and thank the tech-team. In this particular case, I cannot do this and I disagree with the provided solution. A possible workaround would be to add "ISO" in the language selection in order to satisfy everybody. At this time, I am unable to maintain anymore my statistics with reasonable effort. Cheers, Yves --- PS: I would appreciate to experience, if I am the only one cruncher impacted with this change ! |

It's not a sophisticated solution, it is all handled automatically by the framework they use.
