BAM Compatibility

I would like to suggest that full compatibility of managing WCG features through the BAM site be made a higher priority than what my research on this forum indicates it is.
The (albeit minor) irritation I face when making changes to my network due to incompatibility between WCG and BAM has finally driven me crazy.
I'll be glad to return to computing WCG projects when I can manage my settings through BAM. Until then...all the best! confused
Thanks!

Re: BAM Compatibility

Sure.

WCG has adaptations in the planning to allow profile changes via BAM,
but expect some amends at the BAM site too to match the security requirements on the part of WCG. Here we consider this an uncompromisable feature, the events of "Wate" and the recent hijacked teams series on pretty much all BOINC projects but WCG, underlining why it is how it is here.

cheers

It is always sad to have someone give up on WCG, even temporarily. As someone only crunching for WCG, I am sorry but BAM is not a priority for me. It should not be that easy for a minor irritation to cause you to give up on such important work. I believe that the priority is every task and feature that will help bring in new crunchers and that will encourage existing members to crunch more hours. That is what the scientists need from WCG. Maybe BAM will do that, but I don't need BAM to crunch.

Your decision to introduce an added level of complexity, however important that it may be to you, does not make it a crisis for the Techs to solve. Sorry.

Re: BAM Compatibility

Thank you, sekerob and staff, for your continued dedication to both security and providing good support. I'll be checking back here and there for when I might return.

Astrolab:
For the record, I never said this was a crisis that the techs should get to work on asap. I was giving a suggestion.
And in addition to still computing biological research projects on other grids, my profession is within genetic research and I collaborate on many cancer and immunodeficiency research projects. So please don't presume to know that I have "given up" on "such important work".

Re: BAM Compatibility

Like many features, BAM was added to BOINC without sufficient (or any) discussion, or documentation, - or anything, really. This makes it far more work for the WCG techs than it should be. I'm afraid BOINC shot themselves in the foot with this one - it could have been a really valuable feature, instead of an afterthought.

So, World Community Grid will implement it when they are ready. Until then, we ask for your patience.
