Okay, make that 10,714,286 credits then! ![]() How about 20 million BOINC Team Credits by year end as a target? Well, one 8800 gt generates more than 100k points per month, which means well over 1.2 million per year. So our goals will have to change dramatically to adjust for anyone running PS3grid or quitting it. After all, if we set the goal of 20 million credits, and then all of a sudden Keith gets an 8800 GT and you get your 9800 gt up and running, then geez, we're going to blow the doors off that goal, won't we? Good point. We will also have to factor in the points conversion and the extra UD work there. I should get about 33K credits and long-time UD users will get much more. What does the rest of the team think for a year-end BOINC credit goal? EDIT: Keith/Jonathan: I sent you an email. ![]() I think the best way for any individual to look at this is like making a currency exchange when you travel. If 7000 currency A gets exchanged for 1000 currency B, all else being equal, you have the same amount of buying power (the point of currency?). Something that costs 7 currency A will cost 1 currency B. The rest of the BOINC world works in credits. WCG works in points. While WCG has all the points any individual earned, the external sites have ONLY those points earned using BOINC and in the form of credits (points divided by 7). The conversion ill result in everyone's UD points that are not reflected outside WCG to get included at once. If you take your total points earned at WCG, divide it by 7 and compare that to what external sites such as BOINCStats show, the difference is your UD points converted to BOINC credits. That is the amount you will see your externally tracked credits increase by. What you will have for the VERY FIRST TIME is an ACCURATE report of your REAL crunching contribution at WCG. The position/ranking of WCG and each member will increase by some amount based on the amount of UD work they did. In this respect, the conversion will be a VERY GOOD thing. WCG, as a project, has been consistently under-ranked to date because of this. As for user reactions, I suspect you'll see the full gamut no matter what WCG does. We just have to do it and deal with it. |

Only made it to 94F today. We're putting out an APB to find and detain Fall. ![]() Good crunchin' MOT. ![]() |

What does the rest of the team think for a year-end BOINC credit goal? EDIT: Keith/Jonathan: I sent you an email. ![]() As I understand things, the conversion will have absolutely no impact on how everything stands within WCG. You'll simply go from points to one-seventh that number in credits (plus/minus how any rounding issues are addressed). We will not suddenly have a lot more points/credits. Our projected number at year end will not change aside from the simple conversion. The projection of 75 million points is based on what we have done so far for the entire year. That includes the good times and the off times. All the fluctuations are factored in. Thus, 75 million is a reasonable goal all else being equal. The other projects that MOT participants in are not a factor. This is purely WCG. Now if the few of us crunching on these other projects quit that and went exclusively with WCG, we would increase the result at year end for WCG. However, this non-WCG MOT crunching is already factored in so if the level of this non-WCG MOT crunching does not change relative to WCG, we're fine. So, can we exceed the projected 75 million? We can if: 1) we get more members, 2) we increase the amount of crunching we do individually, and 3) we do it in the three months remaining. As for getting new members, frankly, we don't do that well at getting new members. We've been extremely fortunate with the new members that we have added in the last couple of years but we have a long way to go to solid, reliable, and steady recruiting of new members. As for increasing everyone's output, we only have about 20 members that we can expect to be able to communicate with. We all can't go out and buy a couple of quads each. Most, if not all, of these folks are already crunching 24x7 with what they have. In fact, relative to the rest of WCG, we're declining. Notice how our team ranking on all three measures is slowly but steadily declining. 75 million points is reasonable I think. Perhaps we can stretch it to 80. Now I'd LOVE to be proved wrong and have those turn out to be low numbers but you're talking about some major changes in just 25 percent of the time frame that we're measuring over. I think that to beat our performance from last year by about FIFTY percent is overwhelmingly significant. Remember that last year, we had two much appreciated visits from the Base Campers that added to our accomplishment. What we've done this year, MOT has done. Naturally, we welcome anyone who wants to join us in our efforts. Still, to the extent we can grow the team, we improve our long term picture. It's that that will make possible things like major growth in out results. We've grown this year from regularly doing 100-125K points a day to 200-225K. We need to take that to 300K a day easily to try to stop our slide within WCG. If we can succeed at these things, the goals will come and be met. |
