confused Boinc team total recount

Hello,
at what interval is the boinc team total credit recount? Many members switched to my team (TeAm AnandTech) about a month ago, but the team total value exported by WCG hasn't changed yet.

It is still 1 488 332 plus the newly crunched credit. If you manually calculate the sum of every members credit, it should be by now 2 537 252.
(everything in boinc credits of course, not in WCG points)

Thanks in advance

Credit when a member of the team stay with the team, so they only count their NEW points for your team....

Re: Boinc team total recount

Personally, the way team credit and individual credit reporting on sites like BOINCstats are (understated) not ideal (Scribe knows all about it). Members that move, report their personal total under their new team at BOINCstats, but the credits earned before stay with the team Total of the previous team.

At WCG you only see the points earned reported for a team, whilst member of that team, thus per last night 10 million is your total here and translates to approximately 1.487 million BOINC credits, which is the correct value. That will remain the value that WCG exports and after the UD > BOINC conversion will include any points divided by 7 as earned with the old UD agent, again only for the period that they were generated as member of your team.

Re: Boinc team total recount

Personally I like the idea that points remain with the team when a member moves...those were earned when they were a member and should remain.
Imagine what it would be like if it were not the case. There are 'some' teams that earn gifts, money etc from sponsors for the team position....imagine the chaos and bribes if points moved with members....members 'selling' their points to move to another team so that team can beat another team.....no thanks!

Re: Boinc team total recount

The essence is in the last line of the help link. Your team history is shown on your My Grid page. That is not available at any other BOINC project, nor is it accounted for at e.g. BOINCstats. Effectively, except at WCG, there is nowhere else (that i know) an easy historic team crunching trail.

Re: Boinc team total recount

Scribe,

Is there a site somewhere with a list of teams that get real benefits from the credits they generate and what the teams do with those credit benefits?

Are they

Commercial For Profit
Non-Profit

etc.

TIA

Re: Boinc team total recount

Hello BarneyBadass,
You can find a lot of history of distributed computing on links from http://distributedcomputing.info/index.html The short answer is - people have tried it repeatedly. So far, it does not work. The expense of the central servers combined with the expense of bookkeeping makes it a commercial disaster. There is a European telecom that awards points for free extra bandwidth to customers who donate computer time to approved charitable causes (to WCG).

Re: Boinc team total recount

Lawerencehardin,

Thanks,

I presumed it would become a book keeping nightmare (thank goodness I'm not an accountant wink )

I was wondering more about if a team as a team contributed say some theoretical "X" WU's or garnered some "Y" credits, if the team as an entity could distribute something to say either a commercial / non-commercial ( non-profit ) organization.

More specifically, I wondered if say, fictitious team "FagUlu" had accumulated some number of WU's / Credits, if that team documented how they contributed those negotiable credits. Say for new medical equipment for Martians on Jupiter, or some such.

As to permitting individuals to have these credits to do as they like, that's in my minds eye, just silly. Kind of like getting those points from cigarette cartons / packs... you need 300,000,000 to get a $0.42 postage stamp!
