FA@H & DDDT Single Redundancy Change

Greetings all,

The changes to make Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together have been completed and everything is running well at this time.

Around August 18th, the change to single redundancy for FightAIDS@Home will begin. This means that the next week following August 18th members may notice no work being available if they have FA@H as the only project selected. The advantage of this switch will allow the grid to run more efficiently as we were sending out 2.1 work units for every result. This should go down to about 1.2 by our estimations. This will allow us to process more work units for the researchers by using the same amount of processing power. An added benefit is that members will also have their results validated quicker.

We have delayed the initial change to single redundancy for FA@H due to some long work units that were needed to be completed using the old method before we can switch to Single Redundancy.

Thank you for your patience as we switch the system to single redundancy.

(Please note this is the same change that has happened to Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together, and there is quite a bit of information about the change details in this thread. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=21397 )

Here is the original post about the FightAIDS@Home change. As noted above this has been delayed. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=21476

Re: FA@H & DDDT Single Redundancy Change

Greetings again,

The date for the FightAIDS@Home move to single redundancy has been pushed back a few days due to work units in the queue taking longer than I had estimated. We are currently on track to send out the last of the new batches for FA@H multiple redundancy around the 23rd or 24th of August. This means that the week following this, members may encounter no work available for this project if they have FightAIDS@Home selected as their only project.

Thank you for your continued support towards World Community Grid and all of the projects!

Re: FA@H & DDDT Single Redundancy Change

The last of the 'new' dual redundancy work has been sent to members. At this point the work available to send to members for FightAIDS@Home is additional copies being generated by the system in order to complete in progress workunits.

In about 48 hours or so, we will do the first round of 'over scheduling' to finish of the remaining workunits for FightAIDS@Home.

About 48 hours after that we will do a second round, followed by a third round about 48 hours after that.

Based on our previous experiences, we should be a position to release the new version of the research application at that point. Once we do, we will be able to load in new work that will be sent out using the same method that we are currently using for DDDT.

Thank you for your patience during the transition - and please be assured that there is PLENTY of work left to be done for FightAIDS@Home.
