Hi guys
----------------------------------------Its just not updating the work units. I've got 2 completed human proteome WUs and so when i try to update it, it isnt submitting both of them and its not getting any new WUs. My bro uses this comp and he doesnt know if he made any changes to the settings at all, probably he might have accidentally done something? i dont know. WCG says that its fetching scheduler list and after a while it says communication deferred. Specs of my comp are: Windows vista, intel core 2 duo CPU. I'm pasting the log here, might be of help. 7/08/2008 12:59:58 p.m.||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.45 for windows_intelx86 7/08/2008 12:59:58 p.m.||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 7/08/2008 12:59:58 p.m.||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 7/08/2008 12:59:58 p.m.||Data directory: C:\Program Files\BOINC 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5450 @ 1.66GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 13] 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Processor features: fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 pni mmx 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||OS: Microsoft Windows Vista: Professional Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.00.6001.00) 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Memory: 1013.69 MB physical, 2.23 GB virtual 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Disk: 68.31 GB total, 28.38 GB free 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Local time is UTC +12 hours 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.|World Community Grid|URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 622573; location: home; project prefs: home 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 31-May-2008 09:28:58) 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Host location: home 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||General prefs: using separate prefs for home 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Reading preferences override file 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 760.27MB 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 912.32MB 7/08/2008 12:59:59 p.m.||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 7/08/2008 3:15:20 p.m.|World Community Grid|Fetching scheduler list 7/08/2008 3:16:31 p.m.|World Community Grid|Fetching scheduler list 7/08/2008 3:17:06 p.m.||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 31-May-2008 09:28:58) 7/08/2008 3:17:06 p.m.||Host location: home 7/08/2008 3:17:06 p.m.||General prefs: using separate prefs for home 7/08/2008 3:17:06 p.m.||Reading preferences override file 7/08/2008 3:17:06 p.m.||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 760.27MB 7/08/2008 3:17:06 p.m.||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 912.32MB 7/08/2008 3:17:06 p.m.||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 7/08/2008 3:17:26 p.m.|World Community Grid|Fetching scheduler list 7/08/2008 3:18:46 p.m.|World Community Grid|Fetching scheduler list 7/08/2008 3:23:11 p.m.|World Community Grid|Fetching scheduler list 7/08/2008 3:24:21 p.m.|World Community Grid|Fetching scheduler list 7/08/2008 3:46:02 p.m.|World Community Grid|Fetching scheduler list 7/08/2008 3:49:12 p.m.|World Community Grid|Fetching scheduler list If u could please help me it wud be great. love to do crunching..... cheers Geoffrey ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 7, 2008 8:21:55 PM] |

Hello geoffrey_philip,
What you want is for MESSAGES to say something like: 8/6/2008 5:58:37 PM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 55 seconds of work, reporting 1 completed tasks 8/6/2008 5:58:42 PM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 1 new tasks What does TASKS show? Lawrence |

Hi Lawrence
I understand what you say, i want the messages to show the same way but the problem is that, it isnt showing that. in MESSAGES its still showing Fetching scheduler list. the same as i posted before. In TASKS it shows the two completed WU with 100% completed and ready to report status. For some reason its not uploading those WUs. Geoff |

Hello Geoffrey,
----------------------------------------I am not sure if it could help, but I noticed several times that, after an hibernation, BOINC is not able to use the network, even if others applications use it without any problem. In this case, only a reboot can help BONC to find again the network and to use it. Until now, I did not report this problem but perhaps you do experience the same. My configurations are WinXP or W2K based, running BOINC 5.10.45. I suppose that the problem is related to BOINC because several hosts with different OS seem to experience the same problem. Cheers, |

Scribe, Ofcourse i did update in Projects..........it doesnt update the WUs. it just goes back to communication deferred.
in reply to kersamson, I'm using a secured network at the moment, when i reach home i'll reboot and try to connect. i'll post an update in 6 hours when i get home. cheers Geoff |

Are you behind a firewall or proxy?
WCG uses secure http to access the scheduler (port 443). If this is being blocked anywhere, it will mean that you cannot see the scheduler. |

Guys its working now
Sorry to have bothered you all. The fact that it didnt work was because i was behind a proxy at Uni and so WCG didnt work. when i came home and hooked it up, it worked just fine. Thanks y'all. ![]() |

geoffrey_philip, in housekeeping fashion, will you edit the opening post title and please insert [RESOLVED]. All will know the issue is done. The next visitor will know it's a thread with an answer why the problem happened.
----------------------------------------thanks.
