So out of curiosity how is this all tracked then? Not that I do not trust you guys or have enough badges already but you know I feel better the more I earn! So if we cannot calculate out totals how do we know where we are in the 14 day cycle? Also like you said if I already have 5 days in my recent list of turned in work and I run this 24/7 I should be very close just by shear probability of getting 14 days worth of work in a finite amount of time. So since I have been opted in to the Rice job since it started which is a finite time I should be done with 14 days by now even with random packets of work being sent out. I am assuming that work is given randomly if one is opted into all of the possible projects!?

Cyberia,
----------------------------------------It has always been tracked by member and projects to the second, point and result exact, but never published. The Badges were the first step, enhancement of the My Grid page to see the project contributions is another, in the planning. Many more features to the badges were requested and considered and wish-listed. Read the forums to find out what ideas are already there. The RICE jobs for a long time on multi project devices came in 1 in 10 1 in 20. I noticed Didactylos only recently picked up his, so it can take 2 month. Many people run this as a preferred project, thus what was left for the general pool was little. There's a pick index somewhere that is tuned so to ensure that with the constant varying of job lengths, the coming and going of volunteers, priority batch completion requests for experiments, version upgrading related production fluctuations and what not, all projects get their relative fair share of total grid resource, but it is by far a constant. Btw, there is a boast thread to tell folk you have yours, when it's there: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=20432

so I have another question,,,,
if 14*24 = 336hrs reqd to get badge is the order of precidence the total hrs or the total days? suppose you have a quad core and all it works on is rice... eace core works 8 hrs on a wu; so in 8 hrs you have the equivelent of 32 hrs contribution... so how daes this really work? |

Barney,
----------------------------------------If you are trying to entertain us (CAs) this is not necessary. Although we spend much time for WCG we all know other ways to have fun or to spend time fruitfully. As far as your stats are concerned the servers are totaling points, results and runtime credited to all WUs you return. They do not care about how many cores you have in your crunching farm. Therefore runtime is runtime and there is no precedence problem between 14 days, 336 hours or 1,209,600 seconds: they all happen at the same time, as most reasonable people could guess. My turn to ask a question: aren't there any TV set or books where you live? Cheers. Jean. |

Cyberia, if your post is for me, better avoid colloquial English or slang. I am not a native English speaker and I have never stayed long enough in the US for learning that.
----------------------------------------Anyway, if I am guessing the meaning of your post correctly, I do not hate anybody, I am a rather peaceful and patient person. In fact it is when I will give up answering Barney that he and you could start to worry. Cheers. Jean. |

Jean,
First I was not attempting to humor or otherwise entertain you (CAs) in any form. I was simply attempting to ascertain what the criteria was for the actual awarding of badges. Considering the Bionic software is cognizant to the actual number of cores a system has the question of days contribution :vs: hrs contribution becomes significant and I was simply attempting to fully understand what the actual criteria was. A quantity of "DAYS" is one thing; a quantity of "DAYS EQUIVALENCY (336 hrs) is quite something else. Either way is fine, and a reasonable person would want to indeed know how the criteria of "DAYS" evaluated since there could clearly be a minimum of 2 conclusions. First, is 14 days regardless of the number of cores and equivalency. Of course the other is 336 hrs or as you so elegantly articulated 1,209,600 seconds! Thanks for entertaining my question and forcing a laugh. As for TV's or Books... Yeah, I think a neighbor has a TV and should I choose to fix it I could watch it. As for books, I have rooms full of them, all technical thanks, one of which as I was doing some research forced the question to arise to an otherwise reasonable person unable to clearly make a simple distinction. |

Barney,
----------------------------------------I have taken no offense from your question but since you are very curious about those things I am sure that you have read all those threads about badges, stats et al. If there had been such a criterion as days per machine you would have seen it addressed at one place or another, either by another member or by the CAs or by the techs when they explained/discussed badge attribution. That's why I wondered if you were seriously wondering about that or if you were having fun with us. Please keep in mind that WCG is not trying to make things more complex than necessary. So when you have a choice between two interpretations of all this stuff the simplest and most natural one is generally the right one. Cheers. Jean. |
