cool re: BOINC: Website Device Profile & Local Preferences Information

I am wondering what the defaults are for "Connect to network about every x days" and "Cache y extra days of work" for each of the named device profiles. For example, I think that if you set the radio button to "Standard Settings," both are set to 0.2?

I've already checked the FAQ "BOINC: Website Device Profile & Local Preferences Information"; I presume the reason the answer isn't listed there is because this is one of the preferences that has no effect on which radio-button is selected on the Device Profiles screen in when you edit it.

Re: re: BOINC: Website Device Profile & Local Preferences Information

The way to find out the defaults is to create a new profile (school, work, home). I'd imagine they start from scratch. Never tried and compared this myself.

[Added: just created 'school' and the switching to custom, it suspiciously looks like whatever was already there in the 'default' profile.... in a way logical. The wiki at Berkeley does not list defaults but for the few. There may be WCG defaults but no idea where to pull those from.... ah a test account.... stand by]

Re: re: BOINC: Website Device Profile & Local Preferences Information

The BOINC default is 0.1 days. The current WCG default is 0.2 days, but I believe the setting for new profiles has been changed by WCG at least once.

My personal recommendation is 0.5 days for the work buffer and 0.1 days for the connection interval.

Re: re: BOINC: Website Device Profile & Local Preferences Information

Didactylos, I'm sure to have seen a list of 'BOINC' default values and the version from which the option is available, but this latest latest Berkeley official wiki creation seems to have "lost" several:
