Oxford.... that reminds me: Wonder if this company has any association with those that were being fed by the data crunched for Dr. WG Richards of Oxford? There was a whole array of companies created to exploit and them controlling what was being crunched for UD. Was UD public domain? Don't remember and pretty much all has thoroughly disappeared from the web on the history.
----------------------------------------If Jean Pierre. is still alive and kicking, did his direct contact with the Dr. ever reveal whether a paper/papers from the results were published / are going to be published for public consumption? Anyone? [offtopic]UNiRAC, the image links in your signature have long been broken. What was wcg.cc anyway?[/offtopic]

Hi Sekerob,
I vaguely remember that that project was not committed to keeping the results in the public domain. Although I was very attracted to a project that was dedicated solely to cancer, I didn't sign up to it because I thought that it was more important to support the public domain. Christine MH |

I may be mistaken, but from what I remember of UD, it was affiliated to some of the Oxford Universities.
----------------------------------------So while the data may not have been fed directly into the public domain, the universities are publicly owned. ![]() |

Some of the Oxford Universities? Publicly owned?
Huh? There is only one Oxford University. It is not publicly owned. In fact, Oxford University owns most of Oxfordshire (I think), and more besides. Their financial statement says the colleges hold 3 billion GBP in assets. The university itself has a mere 1.5 billion. I'm not good with finance, so I may have got that all wrong. |

the universities are publicly owned. And even if/when they are... The fact that a university, a company or any other kind of organization is publicly owned does not mean that everything they produce, invent, discover, own, etc... is available for free to anybody. Cheers. Jean. |
