I installed boinc using the following command on my fedora core 8 install"
yum install boinc-client boinc-manager I can open up the gui, but for some strange reason i cannot connect to a project. I am sure i am just missing some really simple step that is going to make me feel like an idiot when i am told what it is, but i am getting really frustrated as i really want to participate in this project. My situation: I click "tools" "attach to project" then i get this error: "BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client. Please use the 'Advanced\Select Computer...' menu option to connect up to a BOINC client. To connect up to your local computer please use 'localhost' as the host name." I click advanced select computer if i type localhost I get this error: BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to try to connect again? if i type: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to try to connect again? What major part of this puzzle am i missing??? Thanks for you r help nadazip |

This probably means the client isn't started.
You need to start BOINC first. I'm not familiar with your specific package, but hopefully BOINC is set up to run as a service, and you just need to enable it and start it manually this first time. When BOINC is running, the GUI will be able to connect to it. |

If you start the manager in the same directory as the client, you don't need a password. There should be a script (usually called run_manager) that changes it for you.
If you do need the password, you will find it in gui_rpc_auth.cfg Complicated. Sorry. |

Are you attached to www.worldcommunitygrid.org ?
If so, then the processes doing the work are named wcg_* The Linux client doesn't come with a screensaver. However, if you can make it work, I would be very interested - please tell us about. |
