Hello,
I have BOINC 5.10.45, installed on VISTA home premium, and when I try to preview the screensaver, I have only text informations displayed on the screen. Also, in BOINC, in the task window, the button "see graphics" is disabled. I have installed DirectX9, and the driver of the monitor(graphic card: GeForce 8500GT), but without any success. lolveley. |

I have BOINC 5.10.45, installed on VISTA home premium, and when I try to preview the screensaver, I have only text informations displayed on the screen. See this FAQ for pointers. Also, in BOINC, in the task window, the button "see graphics" is disabled. The Show graphics button only works when you have selected a running task. The (sub)project must also have graphics to be shown. It won't work when you have installed BOINC as a service. The workaround mentioned in the FAQ cannot be used in Vista. I have installed DirectX9 Why? Vista comes with DirectX 10, so if you want to update anything DirectX you'd have to do that one, through Windows Update. and the driver of the monitor(graphic card: GeForce 8500GT) Um... did you also install the updated graphics card driver?

I'm having the same problem. I only see text as the screensaver. It shows the progress percentage and the BOINC logo but not the graphics. All my graphic drivers are up to date and I downloaded the BOINC agent just two days ago so I assume it is the latest version.
I really dislike the BOINC platform. I much preferred the UD agent, much easier to work with and has a more professional look. I never had any problems with the UD agent now I have problem after another with BOINC. Running Windows Vista Home Premium as well. |

BOINC will not show the graphics in Vista if you have your screensaver password-protected. This is a known issue which should be fixed in version 6, whenever that comes out.
UD has been completely abandoned by its now defunct parent company, so WCG had to withdraw their support from it as well. BOINC is much better, and can utilize all cores on multi-cored systems. |

BOINC uses much better error messages, which helps when things go wrong, but it is multi-platform, so it does not use the special Windows graphics that made the graphics look so professional on UD. I am having a similar problem since I upgraded on my XP Professional laptop running BOIC. I don't get the graphics any longer, just the World Community Grid logo bounces around.
I uninstalled the software and reinstalled, to no avail. It works fine on my clunky old Windows XP Home laptop. Can anything be done? |
